Restructuring the Codex

We are currently moving articles around and changing the general structure of the Codex. Please come back later if you get lost!
Featured articles are displayed in the Community portal of World Anvil and in the #featured-article channel on WA's discord server. Featured articles are examples of great worldbuilding and usage of World Anvil's features.

What makes a good featured article?

This is a list of things we look in articles we want to feature:
Credited Art: Always credit the artist behind the art you are using- even if you are the artist! For more information on how to find images, read our Guide to Images.
Going forward this will now be a mandatory requirement; don't credit your artists? Your article can no longer be featured- and will no longer be eligible to win competitions!

Cover image: This makes the article stand out in the page previews on social media, but it's also a technical requirement for articles to have one.

Good-looking: Use BBCode Formatting to embed maps or Spotify songs, or add spoiler buttons and tooltips (etc), to make your article more interactive.

Great content: Of course, the most important part of any article is its content! Make sure the article is well written. We want to see your best work!
Currently, we only feature articles that are written in the English language. Having perfect English, however, is not required; we're sorry for any inconvenience this causes.

How do I know if my article is good enough?

If you are not sure about the quality of your worldbuilding, you can ask for feedback in our Discord community! The #worldbuilding channels, as well as the Chapters (if you are part of any), are great places to ask for advice.   Additionally, you can browse the community page to see other featured articles as well as popular articles from the community. Challenge winners also tend to be high-quality, so take a look at them for some inspiration!

I've never been featured!

If you think your content is feature-worthy but have never been featured, there are some things you can do. First of all, double-check that your articles meets all the points noted in this article. Crediting art is extremely important, so keep this in mind.   Make sure to share your article on Discord, participate in challenges and use the prompt feature. We are not robots, so the only way we have to get feature candidates is from past challenges, the prompt feature and from the Discord server. But remember, the goal of sharing your articles should be improving your writing, not getting likes!

Knowing you've been featured

You will be tagged in the Discord if you have posted your world there, or you have added your discord tag to your WA profile or world. (those are the only ways we currently have to know that your articles belong to you). You can also find the latest 9 featured articles at the Community Portal under the "Articles" tab.

Send us your suggestions!

If you see an article that deserves to be featured, message @basicdragon on Discord and show them the article you think deserves a feature! We're more likely to pay mind if you're not recommending your own content!

So, it looks like the only articles that get featured are those where the authors know how to code?

No coding is required to have a good-looking article! In its essence, it's a combination of having a good paragraph and heading distribution, and using other elements like quotes (or art if that's something you do) to break up the text.

Thank you, I'll explore this.
