Black River Community

A community of werejaguars situated in the southwestern corner of the Adirondack Park. They are neighbours with the West Canada Nation and share a close bond with them.

History

This community was formed more than a hundred years ago. They are the decendants of former slaves from Southern America who fled to the north. This group had travelled the continent for several decades before finally settling in the Black River area. This of course did not go unnoticed which lead to various conflicts with rival communities. These came to an end when the West Canada Nation was founded. They dominated the region and ensured that no more violent clashes happened in the southern Adirondack Mountains. The community came to rely on the strength of the West Canada Nation for protection, but managed to maintain their independence to some degree. This was further solidified when they were awarded control over the Black River Special Territory by the New York Government in 2019.

Structure

This community is organized in villages. There are a total of seven villages within their territory. The largest of them is Atwell. Each village is a commune where everything is shared that they own. The villages engage in barter trade with each other. A village elder or head shaman leads each of the villages. Once a month they come together in the community assembly. This assembly has represented by the First Shaman who represents the community within the Alliance and towards the New York Government. The community owns a small corporation that handles all the money in order to buy things that the community cannot produce themselves and sell things that they produce.

Diplomatic Relations

The community is a full member of the Adirondack Park Alliance. Due to their small size and their status as outsiders they do not have too much to say. They are closely allied with the West Canada Nation who protects their interests against other factions.
