World Ember Material in Melior | World Anvil

World Ember

Mysteriously ever-burning stones spewed from a volcanic eruption.

After eras of laying dormant, Mt. Darvus in Anvil began its initial venting on Thirday 10th Fireturn 510 2A. The ominous plume of smoke continued to grow in intensity for four years, slowly building a dark shadow across Anvil until the volcano violently erupted on Thirday 10th Darkfall 514 2A, claiming the lives of countless defenceless Anvilians.

Scientific Investigations

Scholars all across the Jolundrian Empire are convinced that this eruption was what sparked the events of The Rupture fifty years ago that forcefully introduced magic to the world of Melior.   The stones that spewed forth from Mt. Darvus are the focus of their research, and as the volcano continues to erupt even fifty years on, they have a continual supply to study from. Now that the worst of the tremors have died down, scientists have ventured towards ruined settlements that were damaged by the disaster.   In the town of Clement, thousands of fresh waystones were found littered across the streets, but what caused more curiosity were the rocks that still looked like glowing embers, even when months or years had passed since they fell. These small pebbles and fist sized rocks have come to be known as world embers, believed to have been spewed forth from the belly of Melior itslef.

Uses

Until further studies have been carried out on these fiercely hot glowing rocks, they have been utilised as a seemingly permanent heat source to put in fireplaces or campsites to cook over and keep warm around.   The world embers are dangerous to transport, and only a skilled blacksmith has the tools and equipment available to move such a hot material. It’s not recommended to cook things directly on the rock, as anything it touches burns instantly. Due to the difficulty of acquiring and transporting them, they are very expensive the further you are from Mt. Darvus.   Many wealthy folks in Anvil have a world ember in a central room of their home to keep the house warm and to use for cooking. Inventors have successfully found a use for larger world embers as a heat source for hot air balloons and are now experimenting with ways to ship the world embers to other regions of The Jolundrian Empire, but containment of ever-burning material is hazardous, and any folks are concerned about the long term impacts of the stones if they ended up in the seas, oceans, or auric snow covered regions of the world.

This is a really cool idea. I love the idea of people using them to heat their homes and to cook on. You'd never have to worry about being cold again! :D

Now all I can imagine is some really lucky rock collector coming across one of these stones and being completely overjoyed. I love the idea of glowing, warm rocks riddled across the land.

You should check out the The 5 Shudake, if you want of course.
