Puurtan Observatory

Situated on the northern shore of Crater Lake, the observatory is one of the most distinguishable features of Seat of power. It is also the oldest building of the lakeside city, though not technically inside the city itself. The observatory was built about seventy years before The Dimming. It was funded by a wealthy tradesman with a passion for astronomy and designed by one of the leading astronomers of the day. It took six years to construct the observatory, and another six months to assemble the large telescope it was built to house.   The building remains much the same today as when it was built, albeit a few repair jobs over the years, though there are a few more ancilliary buildings than there used to be. There are also another two smaller observatory buildings that have been built along the eastern ridge of the crater, though they are of a much more functional style. The observatory itself is four storeys tall and has a large dome on the top. This dome can be opened by varying dgrees to allow the telescope inside to be directed anywhere in the sky it needs to be.   The decor inside of high quality but not flamboyant, there is an understated elegance to the place. Apart from the grand library, here the decor turns quite lavish and eclectic. With large metal mobiles of the solar system, and various constellations hanging from the high, ornately painted ceilings. The shelves are trimmed with ornate , carved lattice work, the furniture is highly polished, and made from heavy dark wood. On the wall panels between shelves hang ornate tapestries in rich vibrant colours.   The top floor of the observatory is dedicated entirely to the telescope and it's connected measuring devices. The remaining three floors contain mostly study rooms, laboratories and a few smaller library rooms. There are also a few bed chambers for those who are studying late, or are visiting, as well as longe, dining hall and kitchen.
