The Astronomers

...It seems as though for all that I have learned over my years of studying, the list of what we don't understand grows equally as fast as what we do understand about theses strange "constellations". The fact we still don't have a better word to describe them speaks volumes to our lack of knowledge of these things that hold so much sway over our lives
— Excerpt from The Astronomer's journal

Purpose

The Astronomer's main focus is to study the "Constellations" and their effects upon the world. They seek to understand exactly what the "Constellations" are, as most of their investigations so far indicate they are not made up of stars as most people understand them. Since the rise of the GBC The Astronomers have also taken an active role in resisting against, what they consider to be, an ignorant mindset which will only lead down a path of misery and destruction.

History

While these days The Astronomers have become one of the most powerful organisations outside of GBC controlled territory, they started out as nothing more than a handful of astronomers and scientists in a secluded observatory base. Even before The Dimming the observatory existed at the top of the mountain, and had a few buildings attached to it accomodate the few people who lived and studied out here.   They witnessed the diming of the sun through their telescopes, and realised instantly that this was no mere eclipse. They were also probably one of the first people on the planet to notice the "Constellations" for the first time. They immediately devoted all their time and attention to studying these new phenomena in the sky, that and surviving of course.

Organisational Structure

At the head of the organisation is The Astronomer, who directs the focus of the organisation and also heads the team who are responsible for collating all the data on the "Constellations". Reporting directly to the Astronomer are the department heads, who each oversee a large team dedicated to a particular field of research.

Public Agenda

they issue an almanac, which they distribute to the public. it contains things they think people need to know about the constellations. and also tries to educate people on the benefits of studying the constellations. The alamanacs are confiscated and burned whenever found by the GBC and it is a punishable offense to be caught with one.

Ahoy! I really like this idea. I wonder if it'd be fun to later expand on the technology and equipment they use? I hope they're being very careful when it comes to the sun!
