False Teal Cap

Not to be confused with the Teal Cap.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Pileus (cap): Meaures 6 - 7 metres tall and 7 - 8 metres across. Acutely conical, with a rugose or rivulose surface. The cap margin is entire. Bright teal in colour, ranging from light turquoise to aquamarine to sapphire blue.
Lamellae (gills): Adnate, close, serrated gills. Arctic blue with a crystal blue bioluminescent glow. Produces crystal blue spore print. Additionally, a symbiotic trailing plant may be found growing from the underside of the cap between the gills; this vine produces purple berries that have a tart, citrus-like flavour.
Stipe (stem): Fibrous texture. Measures 5 - 10 metres tall, 4 metres across at the abruptly bulbous base, and 1 metre across above ground. Teal in colour.
Veil and Annulus: Superior pendant partial veil.
Hyphae and mycelia: In the immediate vicinity of the mushtree, the hyphae are rhizoidal and range in colour from moss green to turquoise to sapphire blue. Further away from the mushtree, these colours fade.

Growth Rate & Stages

The false teal cap grows at a rate of about 75cm a year, taking 13 years to reach their full height. They live for up to 30 years, after which they shrivel and decay and are eventually reabsorbed into the earth. However, their mycelium networks can survive indefinitely, as long as there is sufficient nutrients available.
