Arine (/æɹiːn/ [ah-reen])

https://explorethearchive.com/lost-civilizations https://www.history.com/news/6-civilizations-that-mysteriously-collapsed

Defences

Being underground, Arine is highly defensible against any attack. Entrance tunnels act as bottlenecks, slowing forces attempting to gain unauthorised access.

  • Sākeltsin: Sanctuary District; the spiritual heart

In addition to the districts of the city of Arine, there are a handful of other settlements in The Arinean Kingdom, which can be reached either by conventional travel (in the outside world) or through Wrey via the Wrey Points:
  • Rūz Arbekslople ('south dry-grass slopes')
  • Torpelf
  • Zēbornar (loosely 'border')
  • Vālēar

Points of interest

The entirety of Arine in and of itself is a point of interest, as it was built entirely within pre-existing caverns and tunnels. Within the settlement, points of interest include the palace in Gōblishen, the great sanctuary and other monuments in Sākeltsin, and the amethyst geode in Ātethis.

Architecture

Structures are typically built with timber or the mushtree equivalent, and the roof usually has a low gradient and is made with stone tiles. They tend to have irregular shapes, and are often partially built into the cave wall. The streets are relatively narrow, and sometimes there are lines strung up between houses (with lanterns, or for washing, etc.) or even rickety pathways.

Geography

So far as it is yet known, Arine sprawls across seven large caverns in the region directly beneath and around Miellanon. Each cavern represents a district, some of which are dedicated to similar types of services or professions and some of which are not.

In actual fact, Arine sprawls across nineteen caverns and the multitude of connecting caves and tunnels beneath and around Miellanon. Seven of these caverns are dedicated to groups of services and professions, one holds the seat of power, and one is the heart of the Arinean spiritual belief system. The other ten caverns and surrounding caves and tunnels are general housing and smaller communities, with various monuments, stelai, shrines, and sanctuaries sprinkled throughout. Each cavern, as a clearly-defined area, is a district. The connecting caves and tunnels are divided into districts based on proximity to one another and where they are located between caverns.
