Physical Description

Zhetai is lithe and limber; athletic but more agile than powerful.

Body Features

Zhetai, as a tabaxi, is a humanoid feline, appearing rather like a mix of the Savannah, Abyssinian, and Egyptian Mau breeds. His fur is a pale sandy brown with darker brown markings, particularly around his face and on his tail. His padded fingers and toes all have sharp retractable claws that give him a natural advantage both in climbing and unarmed combat.

Facial Features

Zhetai's face is feline, rather narrow and angular, with a catlike snout complete with whiskers and tongue papillae. His long ears have small tufts of fur at the ends, akin to a lynx's.

Physical quirks

Zhetai has an instinctive need to have the literal higher ground in almost any situation. When faced with combat or crisis, his first action will be to get as high up as possible- whether that means climbing a tree, a vertical wall, or even his fellow party members.

Apparel & Accessories

Zhetai values mobility and utility over fashion. He wears very light armor, with some steel plates but mostly made of fur or hide. This is paired with a dark green hooded cloak, as well as a simple satchel with just one strap slung diagonally across his chest over the armor. He prefers to walk barefoot. His most iconic accessory is a necklace of shells and shark teeth, with the actual pendant being a sea serpent’s tooth with some scrimshaw carving. This was his father's talisman as chieftain, and Zhetai uses it as his arcane focus.

Specialized Equipment

Zhetai wields a bow enchanted with storm magic, called Tempest, that fires piercing bolts of lightning at its targets. He also has a pair of magic daggers called Blazethorn and Snowsting, imbued with fire and frost magic respectively.

Special abilities

As an arcane trickster, Zhetai dabbles in the arcane arts, primarily motivated by occupational need and partially by a desire to understand the atrocities that had been the demise of his people. The spells he knows are highly utilitarian and well-suited to his occupation as a thief, such as Spider-Climb and Invisibility.

Mentality

Personal history

Zhetai Kuan was born in the war-torn isles, with his tribe at risk of extinction. When he was nine years old, his tribe fled from the conflict, led by his parents -the chieftains. However, he was the only known survivor of the exodus, the rest of his clan lost to a powerful arcane weapon that detonated just as their ship arrived at the docks of the capital. To honor them, he goes by his clan name Zhetai rather than his given name Kuan.

As a result, the young tabaxi grew up homeless and broke in the capital, away from the civil war of his home but exposed to the scum of the capital’s underlife and the hardships brought about by living on the street. To survive, Zhetai turned to theft. Though conflicted over the dishonorability of his new profession, he somewhat reconciled it by making a point to solely rob those who were selfish in their affluence.

Zhetai is extremely practical and goal-oriented, despite his humor. He has little tolerance for delaying and fooling about while on a job, though this also drives him to work alone most of the time. When he does work with a group, however, he has a tendency to take charge, inheriting the position of strategist thanks to his tactical creativity.

Due to his homeless youth, Zhetai had to learn to be self-sufficient quickly, and his trust in other people faded rapidly. He is not one to turn on allies without warning, but after being double-crossed so many times it is hard for him to trust others.
