Lizardmen & Hopelessness

by Sypha Selenes

Fallen onto my knees after defeating the glowing lightning orbs, a part of me feels whisked away as Raven perches on her drum as a bird. The pain subsides but is not forgotten. She eventually comes to me and perches upon my hand. The pain from her talon is negligible to the emptiness in my soul. A few minutes pass and Sodryn heals me, which brings some relief and Malor tells me that we have to move on, for we are too vulnerable here. Self preservation is the only concept that puts my feet to the ground as I stand up. Hearing more sounds of combat North of us we press onward through the dark and snow covered hills. We break for higher ground to gain advantage overlooking the area. On the other side of the hill we make out a few creatures and a large cat. Upon noticing the brawl, two of the creatures became engulfed in a magical darkness. I try communicating with Raven to send her down there, however I cannot perceive through her senses nor understand her words. Only the caw of a normal raven comes back.

We continue looking onward and take notice that one of the creatures appears to be Tycone, who is engaging the dark magical cloud. Malor seems distracted by something off in the distance. It finally occurs to me after half a minute that if these creatures kill Tycone they would surely come for me and I start blasting at the swirling, magical dark cloud. I know not if I am of any help as my inner apathy and hopelessness befalls me into a greater state of depression. My attacks are nothing but a primal instinct of survival from my temple training. A minute passes and Tycone is seen coming out of the cloud of darkness, dragging one of the creatures behind him. We make our way down the hill to greet him. The darkness dissipates to reveal the other creature dead. Carilius is here and another person with a large cat. Not natively understanding Argosian, I turn my attention towards what appears to be a snake-like man we killed. Never seeing such a creature before I examine it and search its body. Along with being fascinated by the creature's scales, I also found some coin and a serrated ceremonial dagger. (9 silver, 1 gold) Malor & Tycone then go to move the bodies away from the battle behind some bushes.

The journey continues and the cold night air weighs on as we reach Nevan's farm. We take notice of a couple traps along the path. Hellah accidentally trips one, however Tycone is able to push her aside as a giant tree log swings across the path. Though it must be close to midnight at this point, we see a light coming from inside a house up the hill. Sodryn volunteers to go to the house. Nevan is inside, however Sodryn is unable to gain his hospitality nor any information regarding the sword. We decide to make camp in the pear orchard next to the house until morning. I take the second watch along with the newcomer Amenadiel. I attempt to cast Comprehend Languages, but to no avail. Feeling ever more alone now, I decide to perform a ceremony to Morr to destroy my grimoire Raven, so that it may be remade. An hour passes and the ceremony concludes. Raven erupts into a cloud of smoke whilst transforming into her previous form as a Phoenix rising from its ashes. I hand back her drum and cover her with her cowl. Amenadiel is captivated by her presence and begins speaking to her in multiple languages in a seemingly desire to speak with her. Eventually reaching common ground with Raven in her native tongue, she replies. I tell Raven to rest and to speak no more. Amenadiel then talks to me in Sylvan and asks who is she that I may order her around? I tell him that she is me, my conjuration, my grimoire, a gift from my deity for my loyal service to him. After an awkward silence I turn over to continue getting some much needed rest.

Upon waking up I cast Comprehend Languages and Carilius takes a crack at talking to Nevan. Apathy and depression continue to overwhelm me. Carilius comes back empty handed. Malor decides to try talking to him one last time. As he seems to be finishing his conversation I walk up to him on Nevan's porch. Malor states he will only listen to us if Finn Jackman is with us. As we leave I caution him that others are looking for the sword and to be careful. We head out in search of Finn.
