Episode 5: The Odd Company

by Arsahm Nivakri

So we started looking into the weirdnesses in Far Falls. Gray got uncool and so we went to the Crowfolk part of town first. We could find neither the wizard Zibo or the coin owner Zerko even with a couple of visits and I even left a couple of notes to come see us at the Moldy Pub for money, basically. No real results except Zerko’s a bit of an unreliable drunkard,

We waited a lot and I walked around town and heard rumors in the goblin part of town that the exotic weapons shipment was thought to be used to purge all goblins, which is very uncool.

So, we got an audience with the Mother of the local Tiamt Temple. We weren’t very convinving. I mean I’m just a monk from the plains and don’t know how these things worked but I thought that Skathor being one of the few chosen of The Tower, might be a little more trusted than like me or the others. But nope. Considering how it went I was surprised we were even allowed to ask questions.

The room of Iskander had been tossed and we found a promissory not to Iskander for 1200 gp, which is like a loooooooot of money. I was wondering if it was a bribe or a plant? I don’t really know. Skathor is holding it right now.

The official investigator was incompetent and yet controlling according to Skathor. Great, right?

Maybe I’m too trusting, but it seems like everyone we meet is like completely paranoid.

Except Brother Gigg, who is not having the best of times. I think we embarrassed him. Especially when Nef lost his temper with the Mother of the Temple. I mean, he was right, but yowch.

Oh yeah, Skathor called us The Odd Company, it’s not inaccurate. Not a bad name for us.

Anyway, we asked around and basically Iskander road south and no one has a clue why or to where. He didn’t pack heavily so probably didn’t intend to go far. But a soldier saw him. We’ll go talk to the soldier later. I’m sure they won’t know anything except he went south.

South is a big area. I mean, wilderness, towns maybe, estates, Kijaarva? I mean he can be anywhere.

Maybe we should just give up on all these things and just get jobs of some kind, I could be a city guard maybe? Or maybe we just go to a bigger town where they have more work for a mercenary band who is trying to also be ethical. Well, at least me and Skathor are. But I do need money to live. It’s a conundrum.
