Episode 6: Alarms and Dead Goblins

by Arsahm Nivakri

Good morning, journal.

Yesterday was very busy. Me and Skathor are staying here at The Prancing Pony. It’s not the right name but I don’t feel like asking anyone, right now. I’m tired.

THE YOUNG TIAMT HOLY INITIATE

So the investigation is going well, right. I mean at least better than last time. So we got a couple of leads. The main one I remember at the moment is the young Tiamt initiate, Ostla. I’m totally guessing on the spelling of that name, Watchlander’s not my first language, besides I have to put it into Celestial. Journaling in celestial keeps me fluent, footloose and fancy free. Well maybe just the first one. Anyway she got Skathor’s eye and arranged a meeting for later. I digress a lot. I need to work on that.

THE GUARD, THE GATE, AND THE CASE OF THE MISSING CHAIN MAIL

So we tried to figure stuff out and went and talked to Clay, that guard, and as expected he didn’t know diddly about Iskander. Mannnnnnn.

Then the city raised the alarms and the guards closed the gates. We had mixed opinions on what to do. It’s hard to figure out on such short notice, ya know. Theren didn’t want to get stuck in the walls. Me and Skathor wanted to make sure we spoke to Ostla, although we didn’t know her name yet. I hesitated for a moment. Skathor’s a capable dwarf , but on the other hand, things are really weird so I stayed mostly to protect him in case things went crazy. Which it did! I’ll get to that later.

So, all this time was in his fancy Tiamt holy order robes and so we arranged for Theren to get us Skathor’s chain mail. The guards weren’t very friendly, but finally let us get it . I think they were mostly happy to get rid of us.

TOURISTS

Skathor and I spent a lovely afternoon and evening touring inside the walled city, killing time until our secret rendesvouz. And also getting a sense of the inner part of Far Falls.

We started in the Iron Quarter in the north and true to its name it is full of smithies and other craftsman. It’s the most stonefolk I’d seen a time. It was nice. Still not tons of us here, but I’m not alone. Maybe I can find a good tavern and some home cooking? Our temporary Inn is in this part of town and is run by dwarves. I’ve had some bangers and mash and other dwarven staples, but Skathor says its not so good. It was better than my dried rations, I’ll tell you that.

We circled through the Heart’s Quarter. Very pretty, very well off, but had a rather mean little human mob railing about goblins.

Then through The Quarter Arcanum, home to the main Tiamt Temple of the area. Actually had a lot of other Temple associated buildings and stuff. Also just ordinary neighborhood stuff. A good bit of wealth here too.

The Hunts Quarter was next, the goblin part of town. They were saying some crazy anti-human stuff, but I didn’t pay good attention.

THE HUSH HUSH MEETING

So we met Ostla at the Prancing Pony (Name to be fixed later). There she told us all kinds of things. So, she likes Iskander and thinks lots of folks in the temple don’t like how Melthor is handling the investigation. What a relief!

But besides that she said Iskander had discovered a clue during a theft that pointed to embezzlement within the Temple’s clergy! So, he started to look into it. I think that maybe what got him into trouble. I’m sure Skathor’s on that page with me. There was some kind of case or box or something that Iskander got from the groundskeeper of the temple. Iskander left with the case to consults with a wise old crow in the Crow’s Court. I’m betting that’s Zebo, that wizard. So if the gates lift today, we’ll have to check on him.

That last paragraph is a bit muddled in my head. I didn’t sleep all that well last night. (A.k.a. Nick can’t read his handwriting that great)

THE DREAM

I dreamt of the prophecy I found back home. But it turned out all wrong. I had misinterpreted everything and failed to stop the hidden evils of the outsider unleashing a world wide war. Plus I had no pants. It was very embarrassing.

THE LADY IN BLACK

So we escorted Ostla quietly back to her quarters and on the way back we heard a scream from the Hunt’s Quarter (goblin town). we snuck around trying to find out what went wrong. We found it, I mean Skathor did. I could barely see anything. So someone had tied up a goblin and used it for archery practice. We tried to save him but it was too late.

Skathor saw who did it and he said it was a pale lady dressed all in black, nimble, dangerous, and she walked up the wall to the roof like she was walking down the road! I’ve seen senior monks do that kind of thing, but its more of a dash. Anyway, pretty sure she is intentionally stirring up trouble.

So after she got away we....

-Oh, gotta go, I’ll have to tell you/me what else happened last night, later.
