Journal Entry 7: The King's Army

by Tyrion

It's been awhile since I last wrote, And quite a lot has happened in that time. Me and my companions nearly died twice since I last wrote.I suppose I should start from the beginning, when we met the king.

We spent 5 days traveling down river towards he foot of blackwind's castle. We were told that the king had arrived with his armies to lay siege to Blackwinds castle. We could see the king's encampment miles away. He had at least 5,000 men camped out near the river, preparing siege equipment.Once we arrived at the border of the camp, we were immediately intercepted by a squad of soldiers. They had looks of surprise at the sight of us. They must not have heard that we were on our way and were frightened at the sight of these heavily armed adventurers. We told them we were the king's scouts and had returned from our mission. More men arrived to reinforce the first and they sent a runner to the king to confirm us. After some waiting, the runner returned with Counselor Klaus. He identified Sulvarax and guided us back to the kings tent.

The king was in the middle of a meeting with the other army commanders when we arrived. I have personally never met the king, only heard of him from inn patrons and the stories Sulvarax told of his meeting with him. He was saddened to hear that most of the original group had died for the mission. When we spoke of this, i drew from my back and laid out both Kizar and Grog's greatswords upon the table. After confirming their deaths, we reported all that has happened since we arrived. The leaders were shocked at what we described, some electing to not believe us. Others were impressed that we had done so much and were still alive to tell the tales. I could hardly believe it myself, that is part of the reason I make these journals. So that when I perish in combat, My story can still be told by either my killer or some else who discovers my pack. But that isn't the point, We were talking about the meeting. Which at that point got interrupted by a guard. They said there was a lone figure across the river that was signaling for a meeting. The king thought for a moment and sent us with his rangers to speak with or kill whoever it was.

It took about a hour of rowing but we did eventually reach the figure. The figure turned out to be a wolven with a burned face. He said that he was here to help the king defeat blackwind and he wanted to speak with him personally. Rilithae was immediately suspicious of him and asked me to make him tell the truth. I did so and cleared him of any ill will towards the king, but that wasn't enough. I was forced to bind him in order to be let across. We returned and took the wolven to the king. I repeated my zone of truth and made him repeat his intentions again. He informed the king that the wolven were planning to attack and destroy his siege equipment during the night. He begged him to guard the equipment and ambush the wolven when they arrived. The other leaders were still hesitant and refused to listen to him. But they did agree to allow Fire-eye to allow his forces over to help against Blackwind.

Later that night, we were awoken to the sounds of fire and slaughter. I rushed out to find the wolven had indeed attacked, and they were slaughtering everyone in their path. I quickly rode forward and called for the soldiers to form a battle line. With the help of the Rilithae, Uzu, and Sulvarax we pushed the wolven back and managed to get the army organized. We quickly charged outward and crushed the disorganized wolven. As I fought, I could see Fire-Eye's wolven flanking and killing Blackwind's forces. After some more brutal fighting we managed to force a retreat and win the battle. I quickly ran around and tried to save as many of the men as I could. During this time, I noticed that the wolven had succeeded in their mission and had destroyed our siege weapons. The king later arrived and asked what had happened. I reported our situation and he left in a flurry of curses.

The King called for his advisors and the party to join him in his tent. Once we arrived, the other army leaders reported the same result at their camps. The king said without siege equipment, there was no way to breach the castle and defeat blackwind. As the others started to feel defeated, Fire-eye spoke and said there was a secret way into the castle. He told us of the route he and the other wolven took to escape the castle in the sewers. He said that The king's scouts could sneak in through there and open the gate from the inside. The other leaders were hesitant to trust us, but once they realized the power we had.( Mainly me saying that Uzu and Sulvarax could kill everyone in the room in less than 6 seconds without breaking a sweat) They agreed to let us go and infiltrate the castle.

As of writing this, I am inside Castle BlackVeil with the other scouts. We are preparing to fight Lord Grail, The Death Knight in charge of Blackwind's Skeletal Armies. But you will have to wait until I return to hear about that.
