What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Currently, Timelines allow you to link to specific article types, which then adds a lovely list of timeline events to the article in question, as well.   These article types currently allow linking multiples of the same type:
  • Characters
  • Organizations
  These allow linking, but only one of each category:
  • Location: Buildings, Geographic Locations, Settlements (all three article types are in the same drop down)
  • Generic
  • Species
  • Session Report
  While once possible (before the generic article list was changed to only link to generic articles), these article types can no longer be linked to a timeline event:
  • Conditions
  • Documents
  • Ethnicities
  • Items
  • Laws (Natural & Metaphysical)
  • Languages
  • Materials
  • Military Conflicts
  • Military Formations
  • Myths & Legends
  • Professions
  • Ranks & Titles
  • Spells & Abilities
  • Story Plots
  • Technologies & Sciences
  • Traditions & Rituals
  • Vehicles
  With this feature request, I'm asking for:
  1. A return of the ability to once more link a timeline event to any article type
  2. The ability to have Timelines generate a list of events in the sidebar for all article types (except prose).
 

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Other article types can benefit from timeline events, too. Conditions may want to show the dates of scientific breakthroughs and discoveries, or famous people with the condition, or plagues. Military units and military conflicts have important dates and events, tiles have historical people who have earned them, documents can have detailed histories about their development or their impact on the world, vehicles have service histories, technology and spells have discoveries and important moments in the history of the world. I would love to be able to show the applicable events from my detailed Timelines in any article where they apply. Professions have histories and important people, Ethnicities have significant dates and events, I can't think of anything that wouldn't benefit from a timeline in the sidebar.   Currently some article types are only limited to one event, but I'd love to be able to list multiples so the events appear in multiple articles. For example, for location I'd love to display an event in the building, city, and planet articles where they made an impact, but currently I have to pick only only one. Some events impact multiple species, but right now we need to pick only one.   I love the new timeline event feature and want to add it to all the things. This will help with my own organization but also it provides a clear display for the reader, as well.   Some things could be merged together to make fewer drop downs, or we could have a return of the generic drop down that shows everything, but this time allow it to pick multiples rather than resorting to just one.  

What are other uses for this feature request?

I think I've been rather thorough in my own thoughts on this but others are open to share their suggestions in the comments! Please share your timeline love!   Also, to prevent potential confusion, I am only speaking about Historical Timelines here, not Chronicles. (I don't have a universe map yet, so never really dove into Chronicles).

    From what I have seen, I would prefer to see development go to the chronicles, including the ability to import prior timelines to the new system and the ability to link chronicles within articles.

    Being able to add military conflicts and multiple military formations is absolutely necessary if your history contains any unfortunate disagreements. Documents are handy for those peace treaties that end disagreements. Traditions and rituals seem to come about when celebrating both the disagreements and the treaties.   Not having the flexibility to link any type of article is why everything eventually ends up as a generic article.

    Yes please and + for the linking of multiple articles and multiple articles of different types.   Just a few examples. Peace in war often establishes Organizational changes, treaties or documents, geographical changes, New laws, Myths and Legends surrounding the War, as well as technological advancements. Being able to link to All of them would be ideal.

    + please add multiple locations, for example a peace deal political action can involve multiple settlements that got taken and I'd rather not make multiple events of "XY was given in the Z peace deal" but instead have one "Z peace deal" with multiple linked locations.
