Please add the option of Ruin and/or Ruins to the type list found in the Buildings and Settlement articles.

Great feedback. To better describe the situation. My reason is to allow for the designation of certain buildings and settlements as ruins from the beginning due to the fact that within the world, no one knows what they were or any of the history. They just know them as ruins.

The Team's Response

Well that's funny .... the IS RUIN option WAS there for building but "disappeared" .... those damn Udans!   I will be reintroducing that ... and launching an investigation on the Udan stables .... obviously one of them is missing and is causing chaos ... again.

You can mark something as ruined already. The article is about what it was before it was ruined and/or how its history affects its current ruined state.

I think its a nice idea. It's true that everything was something before it was ruined and that you can mark any building or settlement as a ruin in the Template Specific categories but I still think it would be cool to have the option.

More than a type, a status seems to be more appropriate, because, as soaptoaster wrote, every ruins was something else before.

Normally I'd say that the 'ruined' aspect is separate from the original, better-defined purpose of a structure. On the other hand, if it's a fantasy setting where the true purpose of a structure isn't known, leaving the site's definition at 'ruins' might be the better choice for building an aura of mystery.

I don't think there should be an option for ruins as a type because every ruin was once *something else*; nothing's end-all-be-all purpose is to be a ruin. Stating what something actually was created for (and thus, designed to be) is far more useful.

Would be nice for places that were ruined at an undetermined date or whose origin/type is deliberately unlabelled. Was it a temple? Was it a mansion? It's ruined now, nobody knows!

Settlements already has a section to make it a ruin. But a field for buildings would be useful

I think it would be fine to add it, but it's not super necessary since you can explain that the location is a ruin in the article. The settlement article even has the ability to add dates to it that tell when it became a ruin.
