mentions -quality-of-life articles editor feature ease-of-use
Right now, every article can be linked to using the mention system (Article Name). However, mentioning only works with the article's current, full name.
This feature would simply allow articles to be mentioned through more than one name.
Some articles (such as geography locations) already have a built-in section for alternate article names. This feature could potentially include them in the mention system, or add a separate list specifically for alternate mention names. It would do a lot to make writing articles more convenient, especially if you sometimes reference articles through nicknames, aliases, shortenings, abbreviations, synonyms, demonyms, slang, or other common alternatives.
Here are examples of mentions that could point to the same article:
Nickname: Samantha and Sam
Alias: Bruce Wayne and Batman
Shortening: Bike and Bicycle
Abbreviation: United Nations Space Command and UNSC
Synonym: Magic and Sorcery
Demonym: The Empire and Imperial
Slang: Copper and Police Officer
Alternatives: Caribbean Sea, Carribean, and West Indies
This feature could potentially go a long way toward quality of life improvements. If you sometimes find yourself manually replacing a mention's text, this could automate the process and alleviate some tedium.
The Team's Response
A new feature was implemented that now allows @ mentions to also search through your tags. This means that added alternative names as tags will allow you to achieve the above.
