What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

I would like to see a mini version of the family tree that it more text-based that can be places anywhere and not take up a lot of space. You don't have to zoom or move the interface around to find people in the family tree, or click on them.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

This feature would allow people to choose a smaller, simpler version. This family tree version would only show a handful of generations in order to keep it simple and small. There could be an elipses under the last generation to indicate that it continues on. The person's page you're looking at will be bolded and at the top if they're are no parents listed, or if there are parents, underneath them in the family tree. In the image I put together, there are white circles. Those would be optional emoticons of some sort that can indicate either relationship status between them and the person selected, or other things like gender and alive/dead status. I feel like there doesn't have to be just one, and several of these small emoticons can fit beside each other to show quite a bit of information. I would say 3-5 to keep it small.

What are other uses for this feature request?

This feature could also be used for ranking systems in things such as career ladders, government titles/positions, and even plot/timeline trees(these would have to have nicknames/titles)

This would be a HUGE improvement. I like the family tree that we have, but when it is a sidebar item on an article, there should really be a compact version like this so we can see more of the tree at a glance. +300

Add a checkbox in the feature to be able to make a family tree connection visible to only those who can read secrets (if possible) too? That way writers can keep those references there and keep them hidden from others until they are revealed!
