What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

  Currently, when you create a character that has both biological parents able to be linked, when you link up each parent the system automatically adds a spousal relationship for the two parents. However, there are a lot of situations where the biological parents would not be married and thus not spouses. If you then go and delete that auto created relationship, but have to go add another child, the system then re-adds that relationship in again and you have to go undo the system created relationship once again.   In the modern world, in the UK at least, more children are born to unmarried parents than there are ones born to married parents (based on 2021 census data). The assumption that anyone having a child is automatically going to be married is an outdated way of thinking.  

How does this feature request address the current situation?

  I would like to see either the automated relationship creation being turned off, or have it as a world level toggle. If people want to write their world as being one where having a child means that they are automatically counted as married, then the can have that toggle as on, while others can switch it off and write articles without having to constantly go and undo automated system creations that don't align with their world building.  

What are other uses for this feature request?

No other uses that I can think of. Giving people choice is always better than forcing something on someone.

    I would prefer to manually configure spousal relationships. So a toggle to enable/disable the auto-marriage feature would be great.

    I think it shoud be off aby default, and then you can check a box that allows the program to make automatic connections

    I think the default should still be to have it autolink, but having the option to turn it off makes sense.

    I also would support being able to add parents in more and creative ways without messing with spousal relationships, whether it is between the parents or otherwise. Fantasy has too many options to assume a western nuclear family. :)

    We have way too many toggles so I think it just shouldn't be automatically added and just be an option you can turn on and off within the relationship itself.

    I use this feature, but a toggle would be great or an option when you create the parents somehow. It does get old having to change those who are not spouses from the automatic. I can see all sides of this.

    It's not just a thing of the modern age, how many children were born out of wedlock in the past ? WAY more proportionally seeing how there were less birth control methods. Add to that the cheating rate being increased due to unfulfilling arranged marriages, prostitutes having less ways to prevent their pregnancies and the simple fact mistresses and concubines were a thing, or just teenagers and adults fooling around, I always found it bizarre how this website decided to make it an automatic feature you can't toggle off.
