What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

  In relations for parental relations, a characters parents, it only allows the input of 2 parents and 2 adopted parents. This assumes that all species have to have two sexes which is not true on earth and less so in what can be imagined. This needs

How does this feature request address the current situation?

  My suggestion is that instead of having two slots for each, it would be a feature where you can click on "add relation" more, which can also serve as a way to unify all relations. You can add relation, then pick if it is parent, sibling, cousin, whatever one so desires. It would also be amazing if one could add to this list of relations so it is less constrained by what the owners of the site imagines. If one cannot add to the list, leave it as a Typeable field then.

What are other uses for this feature request?

It can possibly be expanded to make the spouse extra relation feature is rendered redudant because this one can carry all and do many different kind of relationships as well.

Thank you for your suggestion! This redesign you suggest is something we have plans for in the future. We are looking to make a nonautomated system, but this is a completely different system from the one we have. For now, due to the amount of people who have voted, we will need to close this for now, but again - we do have plans for this in the future! In this case, we recommend using whiteboards.   On a final note, When you said "in what can be imagined", it made the team feel disheartened and offended because it implies about the limits of our imagination.     I personally have many spices that have many och complicated genders and sexes and this would help much. But it would also be great if you could add a character to a household. One group have packs. Mine packs have members that live in romatical pairs but all members are considered family and in one scens married. It makes the children a child of every one. Not just the birth parent. So more options would be fantastic.

    This is a great idea. If it can be done it really should. As said above there are species that need/have more than two sexes. Or just one sex to be honest.

    I agree with this. I have stories with alpha and omegas, some with triad relations, and being able to enter more than two parents and two adopted parents would be helpful. Most family tree programs give you the option of selecting the relation with no limit to what the chosen relation is. This would help out with world and character-building on so many levels.

    I would use this feature, as well. I have several characters with more than two adoptive parents, one of which I also show their biological parents. I also have a culture that does not follow the stereotypical parental norms and instead adopts all children of the group as their own. It would be nice to have a way to show that.   I know it will require some rethinking on how certain aspects of family trees display, but honestly I don't think it would have to change too much from how they present now. Plus the sidebar lists would be more accurate.

    YES YES YES YES YES! One of my world has technically 3 different biological parents for a child (two human and one vampire) and it would be great to mark them as actual biological relations instead of adoptions. Relationships are kind of a let down on this site, which is a shame because the infrastructure seems to be there just poorly executed with heteronormative standards (only two parents, automatic spousal relation)

    Seconded, I have several species who can have more than 2 biological parents. Outside of that use, it also allows for characters from families with more than the two parents are present and held in equal importance.

    Needing two parents does not imply they must be of two different sexes, nor does it imply there are only two sexes. I still agree we should be allowed to have more or less parents though.

    I could totally see alien species where one could only be fertilized by 2 different parents, like you'd need biological and then "the brain parasite" too.   On the other note while current family things only refer to biological parents, I bet many do misuse the feature and display step-parents there too (especially if the biological is a mystery) so this is probably a thing already that would be covered by this (so like adding the bio father as 3rd once he shows up).   It's very niche, but totally justified
