What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
Currently, only Twitter and Twitch are listed for possible social media contacts when using the social media widgets setting. Not everyone uses Twitter, especially with the current problems Twitter has, and many have turned to other places like Mastodon, Cohost, Tribel, and so forth. However, there is no way to list that within the social media widget itself. Since Twitter has its own line for us to enter a username, why not Mastodon as well? The other option is to add a line for us to customize a social media site for people to contact us worldbuilders.How does this feature request address the current situation?
This would fix the issue of worldbuilders who don't use Twitter but would like their social media contact handle listed under that section.What are other uses for this feature request?
It would provide an opportunity to review if the social media contact list needs updated to include further sites. If a customizeable line is adopted, then that would allow worldbuilders to list their other social media sites that may not be Twitter, Twitch, Patreon, or Mastodon. This would make it easier for people to contact us there.Follow up
I input in the Discord too, but wanted to update here as well: Yes. Every Mastodon user has a profile that can be linked (just like Twitter). However, the profile needs to include the server as well as the username. Like mine: [email protected] So then the link will flow to the correct location. This is because Mastodon is a decentralized federation of servers, and each server has their own members. People can talk to each other across servers and within servers. So we just need a space to input the full user name. I hope that helps! I also think adding a separate customizable field for other social media sites could be helpful too (this will allow those using the social media site cohost to include their profile links.)
