The Lunoris Incantation Spell in Zepharog | World Anvil

The Lunoris Incantation

The Lunoris Incantation was created by the Rakashan. It was used for traps, trickery, and shadow manipulation.

Effect

The Lunoris Incantation is used to control the power of the Rakasha's moons. At first, the Selenokineticist will only be able slightly manipulate the shadows around them, create the faintest bit of moonlight from their palm, or conjure a small illusion into being. But as the Selenokineticist advances in power with the Lunoris Incantation, they will be able to bind targets in shadow, release powerful bursts of Lunar energy, terrify victim with powerful illusions, and even step from shadow to shadow.

Side/Secondary Effects

Some common side effect the Selenokineticist will develop with the use of the Incantation is: faintest glow of moonlight, their eyes turning fully black or white, and a faint outline of shadow will seemingly absorb all existing light near them.

Manifestation

Once the hand gestures and materials, if required, are present then a crescent moon wrapped in a spiked ring will appear above the Selenokineticist's hand. If the Selenokineticist is concentrating, then the symbol will affix itself to the forehead of the Arcanist.

Source

The Lunoris Incantation draws its power for the Weave of Nature much like The Uroplatus Incantation. But instead of channeling the Weave to nurture, Lunoris channels the Weave of Nature to displace, trap, and trick unsuspecting creatures.

Discovery

During the times before The Calamity, when the Godlings walked the Rakashan landscape, the Twa'shazzah showed the Rakashans how to harness the energies of the three moons and use it for their benefit. As time moved forward and The Calamity began, Rakashans started to experiment with the idea of Lunoris. They found it could create powerful illusions and manipulate the darkness that surrounded the moons-lit planet.   Nowadays, Rakashans have shared The Lunoris Incantation with other Arcanist societies.

Lunoris Incantation Traits
  • ●○○○○
    • Dancing Umbra:
As an bonus action, you can move and shape natural shadows within 30 feet for 1 minute. You can cause the shadows to attack. Make a melee spell attack. On a hit the target takes 1d6 bludgeoning damage, then the spell ends.   You may also use the shadows to help, giving the target (which can be you) advantage on any ability check, attack roll, or saving throw as loong as the shadow is next to the target.   As you progress in rank with this Incantation, Dancing Umbra's damage increases by 1d6.
    • Distant Image:
As an action, you can create an image of an object within 30 feet of you that lasts for 1 minute. The feature also ends if you dismiss it as an action or use this feature again.   If you create a sound, its volume can range from a whisper to a scream, it can be your voice, someone else's voice, a lion roar, the beating of drums, or any other sound you choose. The sound continues unabated throughout the duration, or you can make discrete sounds at different times before the spell ends.   If you create an image of an object-- such as a chair, muddy footprints, or a small chest-- it must be no larger than a 5 foot cube. The image can't create sound, light smell or any other sensory effect. Physical interaction with the image reveals it to be an illusion, because things can pass through it.   If a creature uses its action to examine the sound or image, the creature can determine that it is an illusion with a successful Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC. If a creature discerns the illusion for what it is, the illusion becomes faint to the creature.
    • Lunar Blessing:
Requires: Concentration, up to 1 minute   As an action, you touch one creature. For 1 minute, the target can roll a d4 and add the number rolled to one ability check of its choice. It can roll the die before or after making the ability check. The feature then ends.   As you further progress in rank with this Incantation, Lunar Blessing's d4 increases to a d6, then a d8, then a d10, then a d12.

    • Beam of Kath:
Requires: Concentration, up to 1 minute; a piece of moonglade.   As an action, you channel a beam of the lunar moon, Kath, that shines down in a 5 foot radius, 40 foot high cylinder centered on a point within 120 feet. For 1 minute, dim light fills the cylinder.   When a creature enters the beam's area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, it is engulfed in ghostly flames that cause searing pain, and it must make a Constitution saving throw. It takes 2d10 radiant damage on a failed save, or have as much damage on a successful one.   A shapechanger makes its saving throw with disadvantage. If it fails, it also instantly reverts to its original form and can't assume a different form until it leaves the feature's light.   On each of your turns after you use this feature, you can use an action to move the beam up to 60 feet in any direction.   As you progress in rank with the Lunoris Incantation, Beam of Kath's damage increases by 1d10.
    • Bolt of Xandra:
Requires: Concentration, up to 1 minute.   As an action, you send a flash of brilliant light toward a creture of your choice within 120 feet. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, it takes 4d8 radiant damage, and the next attack roll made against the target before the end of your next turn has advantage, thanks to the brilliant moonlight swirling on the target until then.   As you progress in rank with the Lunoris Incantation, Bolt of Xandra's damage increases by 1d8.
    • Distort Self:
As an action, you force your body to become blurred, shifting and wavering to all who can see you. For 1 minute, any creature has disadvantage on attack rolls against you. An attacker is immune to this effect if it doesn't rely on sight, as with blindsight, or can see through illusions, as with truesight.
    • Shadowfire Ring:
Requires: Concentration, up to 1 minute.   As an action, you can create a 20 foot ring to appear centered on a point of your choosing within 60 feet of you. This ring lays dormant for 10 minutes or until a Large or smaller creature enters the ring.   Once the creature enters the ring, it activates, creating a 20 foot hollow cylinder of shadowfire. You and allies equal to your spellcasting modifier can enter the circle without taking damage.   Creatures you did not choose must make a Dexterity saving throw and take 3d8 necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.   While the trap is dormant, creatures can use their action to find the trap. They must spend their action and make a successful Intelligence (Investigation) or Wisdom (Perception) check to find the trap. As you progress in rank with the Lunoris Incantation, Shadowfire Ring's damage increases by 1d8.

    • Blade of Darkness:
Requires: Concentration, up to 1 minute   As an ation, you weave together threads of darkness to create a sword of solidified gloom in your hand. This magic sword lasts for 1 minute. It counts as a simple melee weapon with which you are proficient. It deals 2d10 psychic damage on a hit and has the finesse, light, and thrown properties (range 20/60). In addition, when you use the sword to attack a target in dim light or darkness, you make the attack roll with advantage.   If you drop or throw it, it vanishes at the end of the turn. Thereafter, while the feature persists, you can use a bonus action, to use the sword to reappear in your hand.   As you progress in rank with the Lunoris Incantation, Blade of Darkness's damage increases by 1d10.
    • Bolo's Lunar Sinkhole:
Requires: Concentration, up to 1 minute; 200 Gildings worth of citrine   As an action, you channel the moon Bolo into a 10 foot circle centered on a point of your choosing within 120 feet. The ring of energy lays dormant for 1 minute or until a Large or smaller creature enters, where the trap activates.
Upon activation, the creature who stepped in the trapped ring must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 6d8 radiant damage and is knocked prone, or half as much damage and is not knocked prone on a successful save.
    • Cloak of Shadows:
Requires: Concentration, up to 1 minute   As an action, you or a creature you touch becomes invisible for 1 minute. Anything the target is wearing or carrying is invisible as long as it is on the target's person.
  • ●●●●○
    • Black Jump:
As an bonus action, you can teleport from one shadow you can see within 60 feet while you are in another shadow. If you are in dim light, then the range for Black Jump's teleport is doubled. If you are in darkness, then the range for Black Jump's teleport is tripled.
    • Ink Cloud:
Requires: Concentration, up to 10 minutes; bat or Rakashan fur and a piece of coal   As an action, you conjure magical darkness that spreads from a point you choose within 60 feet of you to fill a 15 foot radius sphere for 10 minutes. The darkness spreads around corners. A creature with darkvisino can't see through this darkness, and nonmagical light can't illuminate it. The darkness also covers.   If the point you choose is on an object you are holding or one that isn't being worn or carried, the darkness emanates from the object and moves with it. Completely covering the source of the darkness with an opaque object such as a bowl or helm, blocks the darkness.   If any of this feature's area overlaps with an area of light created by a feature of 3rd rank or lower, the feature that created the light is dispelled.
For example, the feature, Beam of Kath's dim light would be extinguished if Ink Cloud's area overlaps.
    • Izyc's Seleno-Bindings:
Requires: Concentration, up to 10 minutes; a piece of moonglade, Klu silk, or thread.   As an action, you create a 20 foot sphere of invisible shadows that lays dormant for 10 minutes or until a Huge or smaller creature enters, where the sphere is activated.   Creatures inside the sphere must make a Dexterity saving throw or take 6d8 necrotic damage and they are restrained, or half the amount of damage and they are not restrained.   At the end of a creature's turn they may make a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check to break free from the restrained condidtion.   As a bonus action on your turn, you may pulse the sphere dealing an additional 1d8 necrotic damage to all restrained creatures.

    • Selenokinetic Transformation:
Requires: Concentration, up to 1 hour; a bit of gauze and a wisp.   As an action, you transform a willing creature you touch, along with everything it's wearing and carrying, into a misty loud of black smoke for 1 hour. This feature ends if the creature drops to 0 hit points. An incorporeal creature isn't affected.   While in this from, the target's only method of movement is a flying speed of 20 feet. The target can enter and occupy the space of another creature. The target has resistance to nonmagical damage, and it has advantage on Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution saving throws. The target can pass through small holes, narrow openings, and even mere cracks, it treats liquids as through they were solid surfaces. The target can't fall and remains hovering in the air when stunned or otherwise incapacitated.   A target transformed into the misty cloud can't manipulate objects, and any objects it was carrying or holding can't be dropped, used, or otherwise interacted with. The target can't attack or cast Incantation, but it can be influenced by this Incantation.
For example, if someone was transformed by Selenokinetic Transformation, then another creature with Dancing Umbra could shape and move the transformed and even attack with them.
    • Wrath of Bolo:
Requires: Fire and a piece of moonglade   As an action, brilliant moonlight from Bolo flashes in a 60 foot radius centered on a point you choose within 150 feet of you. Each creature in that light must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 12d6 radiant damage and is blinded for 1 minute. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage and isn't blinded by this spell. Undead and oozes have disadvantage on the saving throw.   A creature blinded by this feature makes another Constitution saving throw at the end of each of its turns. On a successful save, the creature is no longer blinded.   This feature dispels any darkness in its area that was created by a spell.
