Rapid Battlefield Command Module
The Rapid Battlefield Command Module (RaBaCOM) is an obsolete but still widely used Soldat module used by squad leaders to coordinate and communicate with their teams. On its most basic level, the RaBaCOM allows the squad leader to flag key positions, enemy units, and objectives, then highlight those targets on the HUDs of the teammates assigned to capture or attack them. This is accompanied by a bundle of encryption software that keeps communications secure from enemy interception.
On a more advanced level, a RaBaCOM can serve as a miniature command and control framework that links commanders at the squad level to artillery teams, air support, and larger zeoform squads, allowing a squad leader to queue up requests for fire missions or reinforcements. These requests are then reviewed by their superiors and denied or approved.
Although it’s been supplanted by more advanced information and logistics software and hardware (such as the SDN-6 Strategic Data Nexus Headset), the RaBaCOM is still prized among mercenaries and colonial militias as a robust, all-in-one command structure that allows them to coordinate attacks and bring some semblance of order to chaotic battlefields.
The RaBaCOM is noteworthy for a deprecated (but still accessible) feature that allows the user to engage a “deadman’s switch” that automatically targets their own position for protocol weapon strikes if the user does not send an abort code within 5 minutes after initiating the feature.
