Bodylock Prisons

"The prisoner’s body is the prison. The persona is rehabilitated within that prison. Will has been confiscated. Conformity is freedom."
— Excerpt from Bodylock tech proposal

Bodylock prisons are small facilities built to a zero-cell, open-plan panopticon design with minimal housing and security costs.

Prisoners sleep, rest and work on open-plan floors. Proximity collars built on zeotech-adjacent technology keep prisoners equidistant from each other within the facility. Pain-shocks trigger in response to any undesired behaviour, biometric change, movement, or proximity to a given target. Every movement and action is designated as a trigger point, with each automated response assigned a value from reward to punishment—all controlled from the security pillar at the center of the panopticon.

Wardens have complete, wide-scale remote control over the prison population’s actions and responses. Biomonitors keep tabs on hunger and waste cycles, as well as indicators of stress, likely violence, and so forth. Good behaviour earns a degree of freedom-of-movement, a number of sitting hours per day, and other conformity incentives. Even emotional states can be trained. By keeping tabs on levels of behavior, autonomy and emotion, even the most volatile prisoner is micromanaged toward perfect emotional, psychological, and behavioural homeostasis.

There can be no escape, not even in madness, as such things are adjusted away from. Boredom, isolation, and body-claustrophobia may nudge inmates toward insanity, but controlled measures always pull them back before algorithmically pushing them toward it again, keeping them exhausted, passive, and well-behaved.

Prisoner muscles are kept toned via application of microshocks/convulsions.

Prisoners who have done their time and been released back into society are often identifiable by their unusual level of acquiescence and passivity. Some return to the prison as orderlies, providing an example and advice to prisoners on how best to get through the time, make amends, and return to outside lives.
