Combat Foresight Helm
An expensive piece of miniaturized predictive technology, the Combat Foresight (“4S”) Helm provides a significant advantage to wearers engaged in close-quarters battle.
The armored helm’s onboard analysis engine, synched to integrated accelerometers and gyroscopes, provides real-time opponent-predictive feedback directly to the helm’s heads-up display. The helm accentuates this with haptic feedback: directional “taps” around the cranium which the user, with training, comes to instinctively translate as proprioceptive guidance. In short, an experienced user comes to feel something like a “sixth sense” in combat, allowing them to respond almost as if one step ahead of their opponent.
“4S” helms are standard-issue amongst CQB and commando units in more affluent heliospheres, often styled for maximum intimidation. However, in some warrior cultures, the use of such “toys” is viewed as shameful and a mark of cowardice.
In pitched firefights and on battlefields, Combat Foresight Helms are of little to no use, and in extreme cases an actual liability. The chaos, false positives, and number of targets can result in an overwhelm of situational data and haptic feedback. This has, on occasion, resulted in operator death before the system could be deactivated.
