The Mortifier™
The Mortifier™ is a compact personal drone assigned by an authority to shadow a person deemed worthy of public shaming. The Mortifier™ hovers out of reach, when possible, and ensures the subject walks a mandated route through their community daily. Refusal to do so triggers a call to the relevant authority who will appear to enforce the order in whatever manner local statutes deem appropriate.
The Mortifier™ tails the subject and logs the route while broadcasting images and audio pertaining to the subject’s shameful offense to all within earshot. Once the Mortifier™ logs that an allotted time and/or number of unique individuals have acknowledged the subject’s shameful offense, the sentence is deemed served and the drone returns itself to the issuing authority.
Popular mainly among smaller and less sophisticated (or more ‘traditional’) settlements, the Mortifier™ (initially designed and manufactured by the Sevenstone Creed) is now seeing a steady rise in popularity on more sophisticated worlds where value is placed upon community, and the concept of shame is still deeply felt. Religious orders in particular are placing larger orders for the Mortifier.
