17. Assailants on the High Seas

As the flyers closed the distance, the crew of the Orina’s Wind prepared for the possible attack. The rest of the party braced themselves as the assailants swooped in, and made clear that the adventurers themselves were their targets. Combat ensued, as the party remained almost split between the upper and lower decks of the ship, with the captain and sailors aiding their efforts up top. Ultimately, the party succeeded in defeating the assassins, though Kent woke Anatoly at the tail end of the fight. The vampire charmed one of the riders, named Oscar, leading the party to question him on his purpose, origins, and allegiances. Their questioning led to the revelation that the Daggers were responsible for the attack, as the guild may have been taken over by a cult of the Scourge. However, their captive assailant soonafter fell to unknown powers, which Kent attempted to divulge though discovered nothing more than a strange force that seemed to counter his mind reading efforts. With the corrupted remains still on the ship, Andraste blessed the bodies and the party, with the crew, stored them away in hopes that nothing more will come of them. The following night, Anatoly, Andrea, and Jacqueline disappeared from the ship, though Andrea had informed Kent that their departure would be Anatoly’s own doing. Though the crew had suffered losses from the riders’ attack, the party lent their assistance in keeping the ship’s functions. After another week’s journey, the Orina’s Wind and her crew at last spotted Curieux’s skyline in the distance.
"It seems as though their group is involved in more than just a teenager's family squabbles."
