Wanderers' Rest

Near the northern gate of Shazun is the Wanderers' Rest, a shrine to gods that support travelers and an office staffed with clerics who exchange information and blessings with those who stop.

Architecture

The shrine is a covered wooden platform approximately 15x15 feet (4.5x4.5m). The roof is supported by four strong tree trunks, one at each corner. On three of the trunks, the symbols for the deities Ilyon, Jorinof, and Odonra are carved on trunk so that they may be seen within the shrine. The fourth trunk is carved with a single path symbol for the three traveling deities. A bowl for offerings or gifts is placed on the floor in front of each trunk. There are movable, backless benches arranged in a random pattern in the middle area of the shrine.   Behind the shrine is a small, simple building where the shrine's staff can rest between visitors.

Tourism

Visitors to the shrine are usually small groups of people heading into the city from the wilds or preparing to leave the city. Those who are coming into the city will stop at the shrine to give thanks for safe passage. They usually place something in at least one of the offering bowls to represent their travels. It could be a coin, a flower, a twig, a bone from an animal or something small that they crafted on their journey. If they sit down, a member of staff will come to greet them to exchange news and give directions to requested locations within the city.   Those who stop by the shrine on the way out of town are generally seeking a blessing for their journey. They will usually place a coin in one of the offering bowls and one of the clerics give them a ring tied with three ribbons, one each of black, orange, and blue, symbolizing perseverance, courage, and strength. Some people hang these from a cord around their neck. Others may tie them to their favorite weapon. The cleric will also give them a verbal blessing for their journey.
