Solga & Lunala

Dualism Manifest

Moons of Zamzara
Twin equals, yet opposites
You both stole the sky.

Solga, shining orb
and Lunala, dark abyss
You both brought our end.

Unknown in your birth
we write about both of you,
fearful of your death.

Lost to the other,
moon chases moon fruitlessly
never meant to touch.

- The Lunar Hymnal

Geography

Due to the lack of space travel within Zamzara, no human has ever seen the surfaces of the twin moons outside of telescopes. However, both moons are visible to the naked eye: Solga, the pink moon, sails across the sky during daylight hours with a soft, barely noticeable glow; Lunala is a dark and mottled thing that only makes itself known at night. Mathematic calculations have determined that they are nearly identical in size and shape, and it is impossible to see both at once, for they are eternally equidistant from one another, always 12 hours apart.

History

The world of Zamzara did not always have the twin moons - they are, relatively speaking, a recent and terrifying development. Appearing in 2131 AC, their arrival was met with panic, suspicion, and speculation. There was no flash of lights, no great sign from the heavens signalling their appearance. They merely appeared overnight out of nowhere, on a day that came to be called The Lunar Birthing. For years people tried to determine the meaning behind this... two years, in fact. When The Kalyugi happened in 2133 AC, the most paranoid of Zamzians were proven right in their fears of the new omens in the sky.

Even had The Kalyugi not happened shortly afterwards, many people had valid reasons to be suspicious of the new moons. Immediately they began to change the tides of the planet, causing waves to grow as tall as cliffs and mountains while whirlpools sprung up around the oceans as tidal flows grew dissonant and violent. Cities and villages along the coast were annihilated - many had no survivors as the worst natural disasters to ever strike Zamzara rocked all sides of the continent, all brought about by these moons of light and dark.
