Queen Thal'vanna of the Drowned Throne

The Deep Queen, Goddess of the Seas, Sovereign of Azurlith, Bearer of Aquavanthe

Domains: Nature, Life, Ocean

Overview

Queen Thal’vanna is the divine sovereign of the Drowned Dominion of Azurlith, a vast undersea empire and one of the most powerful elemental entities of Zalthera’s western seas. Ascended through her bond with Aquavanthe, the Water Shard of Itharyx, she is worshipped not only as a monarch but as a living goddess by merfolk, tritons, sea elves, selkies, and many others who dwell beneath the waves.

Thal’vanna is a commanding presence—both serene and terrifying. She holds court within Azurlith, seated atop a throne of coral and songstone deep within the Velthren Trench. Though once mortal, her long reign has seen her transcend flesh and form to become the Voice of the Deep, an avatar of the tides and the elemental flow.

Appearance

Thal’vanna’s divine form is a breathtaking union of elemental majesty and sovereign presence—shaped by the will of the tides and crowned by the sea itself. Once mortal, her ascension through the Shard of Itharyx, Aquavanthe, has transformed her into something more than flesh: a semi-elemental goddess through whom the Oceanmind flows.

Her body is statuesque and fluid, echoing the motion of ocean currents. Her skin shimmers in a luminous gradient of deep ocean blue to seafoam green, with veins of bioluminescence dancing just beneath the surface—alive with emotion and divine resonance. Each of her movements carries the weight of tides and undertows. Even her stillness seems to ripple outward.

Her face is noble and severe—high-boned, elegant, and commanding. Her eyes contain no visible sclera; instead, they are ever-shifting whirlpools of moonlight and abyssal depth, said to reflect the unseen truths of the sea. When she speaks, her voice is not merely sound—it is sensation, like a harmony felt in the bones, reverberating through blood and tide.

Her hair flows as though forever suspended in water: strands of kelp-silk and spectral filaments adorned with memory-shell beads, glowing pearls, and runes shaped by current-dwelling scribes. She is crowned in living coral shaped into a radiant diadem that grows and shifts with her will. Small sea spirits, such as reef shrimp and whispering eels, often nest in its grooves, acting as omens and messengers.

Thal’vanna wears bioluminescent robes spun from the silk of sea wyrms and sanctified in dreamtide pools. These robes float and swirl even on land, animated by sacred current-threads and embroidered with glyphs of coral law and harmonic scripture. Beneath the flowing garments, the ancient scale armor of deep leviathan hide can sometimes be glimpsed—reminding all that the sea remembers war as much as peace.

Around her neck rests Aquavanthe, the mythic Shard of Itharyx, encased in an eternal spiral of coral that blooms directly from her chest. It pulses like a second heart, its waters ever-moving, and within its crystalline core, some say you can glimpse forgotten leviathans, drifting dreams, or prophetic currents. Aquavanthe is not merely worn—it is part of her. No mortal has ever removed it and lived.

Where Thal’vanna walks, water gathers. Tidepools ripple. Coral flowers bloom. Whispers of the Oceanmind fill the air. Fish follow her shadow. Waves still to listen. She does not simply command the sea—she is the sea, given voice, memory, and intent.

To witness her is to hear the ocean calling your name.

Worship & Clergy

Thal’vanna is worshipped amongst almost all oceanic peoples in the form of the Doctrine of the Drowned Throne. Her temples are woven into coral beds, ruins, or natural caverns and often house sentient aquatic flora, sacred songstones, and living tide-mosaics that display visions of the Queen’s will. Her influence on oceanic realm is near divine.
