The White Lady

Revered by the majority of the simple folk in the lands of the Council, the White Lady is primarily seen as a beacon of order and justice. Few, if any, think of her third aspect: Death.   Among her three colors, white is by far the most dominant one, representing order. A bright red, like fresh blood, represents justice, and while black is always featured few realize it is not just a counterpoint to the bright whites and reds, but actually represents her third domain. Temples and buildings dedicated to her are usually bright white with red-stained windows and corners, window frames and door frames are usually made from wood stained as black as possible.   Originally her temples were scarcely decorated. Plain white walls, dark wooden trimmings with the wood as dark as possible, and roses for decoration used to be the standard. After all, the Lady thrives on justice and order, not in pomp and circumstance. At best, important temples used maybe an embroidered or calligraphed piece of the White Law as a wall decoration, in addition to bright red curtains. But with the rise of the Seat of the Council as the new capital and the growing prosperity, the faith has subtly changed over the years.   Since most of the mages did not follow The Orderly Faith, many of the peasants blamed the chaos of the The Mage Wars on the mages being non-believers. Of course turning away from the Lady's teaching would lead to chaos and injustice! None of this is uttered aloud, but especially outside of the capital people still hold a grudge against the five orders.   In the capital, carried by the publics favor, silver has become a prominent part of her temples and their priests' vestments. Orderly, geometric patterns, mostly featuring cubes and triangles, adorn walls, pillars and corners alike, glittering in the candlelight and dazzling the faithful. Rubies and obsidian complete the patterns and decorative statues with her colors. Someone from the older times of the faith would probably be appaled if they saw the central temple opposite of the Congress Hall of the Council, but the change was gradual and fueled by her believer's gratefulness. Many of her followers credit her and the fact that some of the high-profile mages converted to the Orderly Faith with the end of the Mage Wars.   Needless to say, all this has made the Orderly Faith a very political one, although everybody dances around the issue. The simple folks are afraid of a crackdown of the mages who are not of the Orderly Faith. Their goddess is not known for her open miracles, so should the tension erupt into conflict, another years of destruction would be likely. The non-believers in the Council are also careful not to openly spite the faith, since they are aware that the majority of the population adheres to it.
