Aeldvari
Elves are the eldest of the prime races and claim to be the eldest of all intelligent races, though the objective truth of this claim is unprovable. While their coloration, height, and build all vary drastically by race, they are commonly identified by their elongated, pointed ears, as well as their need for, and command of, magic. Almost all elves are matriarchal in culture, and they have very little sexual dimorphism between males, females, and intersex individuals, other than primary/secondary sexual characteristics.
While Elves are the longest-lived of the prime races, exact lifespan expectations vary by subrace; however, individual Aeldvari can seemingly break through the glass ceiling of their given lifespans and live hundreds or thousands of years more than their fellows. The mechanism of this extra-long life is unknown.
As the first prime race, elves were “given” their common tongue, High Aeldvaren or High Aelfar (High Elvish), which has become the most commonly known and spoken language across all kinvari, since elvish civilization is such a cornerstone around the world.
Elves are broken into many, many subraces, which are generally categorized as either Heavens Elves (cel’Aeldvari) or Wild Elves (wyl’Aeldvari), based upon their primary forms of settlements and their arcane elemental alignment. There are nine subraces that comprise about 95% of Aeldvari, and dozens of less populous subraces that round out the last 5%, but there are disagreements on how to categorize some of them. In general, sol'Aeldvari and lun'Aeldvari are the best-known and most populous cel'Aeldvari, and pel'Aeldvari and vir'Aeldvari are the best-known and most populous wyl'Aeldvari.
Interactions with Other Races
Aeldvari are generally friendly with and respectful of Duovari. Duovari are the closest to “equals” to the Aeldvari as far as the Aeldvari are concerned. Aeldvari don’t share Duovaren aesthetics, but they can appreciate the quality and strength of their creations. Aeldvari look upon Hymvari with a mixture of pity and disappointment. They don’t like a lot of what Hymvari do with their short lives, but they usually don’t blame the Hymvari for having been dealt a shitty hand by the gods. The biggest contention here is how warlike the Hymvari kingdoms can be--Aeldvari and Duovari Do Not War. Aeldvari consider Urkvari to be barely more than animals, and both fear them for their physical power and pity them for their (apparent) lack of magic and higher learning. Where some Aeldvari may try to teach Hymvari and “uplift” them, almost no one bothers trying to do so with an Urkvar. The best relationship between the two races is probably a truce of non-violence. Aeldvari, of the landbound prime races, are the most aware of Nagvari and are… unsettled by their deep-sea kindred. Aeldvari like being the top of the magical and cultural food chains, but Nagvari have them evenly matched and very outnumbered. Relations between the two races tend to be peaceful and formal with an underlining of subtle fear-tension from the Aeldvari side of things.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
