Porous Stinkshroom
The porous stinkshroom is one of many species of stinkshroom. It is found in Trecath, the Frost Lands and Aekor, in temperate and cold environments with a dense tree population. They are commonly used in meals, roasted, fried and baked to produce many delicious foods.
Basic Information
Anatomy
One of the largest polypores, these mushrooms are thin but long, stretching in the shape of a sail vertically up tree trunks. They are a deep yellow, with a thick leathery skin. The skin is hard and rugged, with many holes that give them their name. Many holes go all the way through the mushroom.
Genetics and Reproduction
Over a few days period in Uribar, spores start growing inside the pores of this polypore. These spores then get released late Uribar - early Lonribar, floating through the wind and falling into cracks into trees. They then plant themselves in the tree, getting ready to grow. The heavier spores fall down the tree instead of floating, which is why you often find many of these stinkshrooms growing together on a tree, and some times they take over entire trees, absorbing its insides and making the bark completely hollow.
Growth Rate & Stages
When the spores settle inside a tree, they take a few days to get settled and send a few roots into the tree. Once the roots are firmly lodged in, the fungus can grow. It takes up to 3 weeks for the mushroom to grow to its full length, a record with stinkshrooms.
Ecology and Habitats
Porous stinkshrooms grow in cold and temperate temperatures, in densely wooded areas. Requiring little sunlight, they absorb all the nutrients they need from the trees they settle on, acting as a parasite.

Uses, Products & Exploitation
These stinkshrooms are commonly used in meals. Cut off from their roots, they can then be taken home and fried, baked, roasted, boiled, almost anything. Together with spices and other ingredients, you have a lovely mushroom steak to enjoy. As well as being a delicious meal, cutting it from the tree saves the tree, so it is encouraged to do so.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
They grow in temperate and cold biomes all over the Frost Lands and Trecath, and in the northern and central parts of Aendatha and Mirikith.
Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms
These stinkshrooms are parasites as are all of them. They nestle in a crack in a tree, and slowly dig its roots in the tree, absorbing its nutrients as it does. Over time and with the help of a lot of these mushrooms can it completely eat the insides of the tree, turning the bark into a weak shell as the mushrooms then die since they have eaten their supply of nutrients.
