Somnovus is one of the 7 Primus Deities of Xaedia, she is the Goddess of death and darkness. She is one of only three Gods who ascended a mortal to deity status, this being Galena who would become the Goddess of Healing. Galena was also Somnovus' divine champion.
Somnovus is often seen as the polar deity to Luxathin as their two dominions are so vastly different. Though followers of these two deities often clash Somnovus and Luxathin themselves have only ever quarreled once, the resulting skirmish causing the destruction of Xaedia's original moon. The two then banded together after Caelora intervened to create another of the Luminare, Astrumina a Goddess to watch over the celestial bodies so that nothing like this would happen again. Astrumina then created the 3 moons that hang in the Xaedian sky, one for each of her reasons for creation: Caelora, Somnovus and Luxathin.
Those who follow Somnovus are often practitioners of healing, burial preparation, and those wishing to help souls find the afterlife.
Somnovus is traditionally depicted as a lithe older woman with long white hair that flows until it dissipates into darkness. Her true face has never been seen as she wears a solid black mask, the eyes of which are white, resembling an inverted skull.
