Leo is the owner and operator of The Copper Eel, an Inn and Tavern in Oriath, the capitol of the Free Territory of Galanthis.
Leo is not quite an upstanding citizen - he has a good heart but he also has a gambling problem, and he was a talented pickpocket and cat burglar in his youth. He may have kept his hand in, as far as the pickpocketing goes. His wife has a drinking problem. The Copper Eel is a family affair, with Leo's brother Jarin Cartwright serving as bard and minstrel, his son Cael Cartwright as the primary barkeep, and he and his wife sharing cooking and other inkeeping duties as well as childcare duties.
