Oracles

Structure

The Oracles are ranked by how clear and accurately they are able to hear the voice of Solix. The highest ranked Oracles are said to even catch glimpses of possible futures. The higher ranks train the lower ranks, while the lower ranks run errands for their superiors, such as passing on messages.

History

The Oracle order was founded during the early days of the Astralan church. As Star Roweth was establishing the foundations of the church's teachings, she came to realize that others could hear their god's voice as well. She took them under her wing and gave them guidance. With her instruction, the Oracles became one of the great pillars that supports the church, equal in importance to the Stellaris Constellation.

Priesthood

Oracles are most often appointed by the highest ranked Oracle in the church. Chosen from within the church's own ranks, they follow a similar ranking system to the rest of the priests and priestesses. Unlike the others, though, low-ranked Oracles aren't made to do menial work maintaining the church buildings. Instead, they spend the bulk of their days studying and meditating in order to strengthen their connections with Solix. The only menial task performed by low-ranking Oracles is the running of messages.   One can easily identify an Oracle by the veil worn over their head. It drapes down to the chest in the front, and comes down all the way below the hips in the back. A circlet holds the veil in place, the material of which is used to signify one's rank. Oracles are only permitted to lift their veils away from the face during meal times and sleep, and they are kept separated from the rest of the clergy during these times.

Granted Divine Powers

Oracles are gifted with the ability to hear Solix speaking to them, passing his will through them to carry out in the world. This, in addition to the occasional prophetic vision, is used to advise the Stellaris Constellation in their decision making.

Political Influence & Intrigue

Oracles are the judges of the church. Overseeing ranking exams and deciding the fate of those under trial, they are an important factor in enforcing rules of the priesthood. They are also responsible for nominating potential members to the Stellaris Constellation.   Their primary purpose within the church, however, is acting as advisors to the Stellaris council. A message or vision from Solix can be all it takes to sway the votes on a decision, and keeping him happy is crucial to the continued growth of the Kingdom of Cynia. Because the visions are often quite vague, it is deliberated amongst the highest-ranked oracles what the interpretation of the message will be before it is passed on to the council.
