Living vs. the Dead

12th of Pyzuhr, 2029 OA
Aberrations Stronghold
Kvia, Hellisdalr Lands
The world ended eight days ago.   It's when the dead rose back to life. It was like any other day; the sun was shining and the morning frost was melting off the grass. I had awoken early that day, feeling like something was going to change.   And it did...   I went about my daily chores, training with my father and then assisting my brothers with hunting for food for the clan. While out hunting, we came across a group of people, who were stumbling weirdly, their eyes like glass. Darmin went close to them. His stupid, stupid mistake. Right as he got within two feet of them, they reached out and bit into him. I never heard a scream so feral. Ewan rushed to Darmin's aid, only to get bitten on the arm. He managed to shake the person off him and we began to run.   Darmin had lost so much blood that we had to stop. He died in my arms shortly after. We buried him and the sight of Ewan's infected arm made me nauseous. Before he could protest, I took my trusted axe and hacked his arm off. After bandaging his arm, we returned to the capital only to spot many injured folks near the entrance. Everyone was told to return to their homes for fear of whatever was out there.   Many days have passed since then. Ewan is healing nicely, with no sign of infection. But our Jarl has declared the infected are a threat and must be put down. How can we? The capital is overrun with the infected. I fear for our home...

The Conflict

Prelude

It happened all so fast. Everything was normal one day and then people started getting sick, coughing up black gunk with dark veins appearing on their skin. City after city fell, devastated by the infected. It is unknown how the virus spread so quickly, just that people were sick and then dead. Bodies were piled up in secluded locations with no knowledge of them returning to life sometime after. Within weeks, the entirety of the Hellisdalr Lands was overrun by the dead and a deadly virus known as the C-800 Virus.

Deployment

When the dead first started appearing, Jarl Ubbein Skidisson called for his best warriors to pick up arms and take to the battlefield to wipe the warped from their homeland. The first battle lasted for hours, cutting down as many warped that would just reappear. In days, over fifty percent of the capital's population had been decimated, with many retreating to their homes and quarantining themselves from the danger.   The capital was now overrun with the dead, and the four Hersir within the capital broke the capital into five sections, each ruled by a Hersir and the final plot of land in control of Jarl Ubbein. The Hersir rule their land however they see fit, taking on portions of the warped with whatever they can find.

Battlefield

A battle with a warped can happen anywhere and even range from a single warped to thousands of warped in a setting. These battles are typically in deserted locations, like rundown buildings or the untamed wilds. What was once a former civilization might now be a breeding ground for the warped, waiting for their next meal to walk through.

The Engagement

When engaging with the warped, one has to be prepared to adapt to the situation. A warped does not care where it is fighting, as long as it can take a bite out of its victim. Survivors of the apocalypse must use their landscape to their advantage; anything can become a weapon, from a sword to a rock or even a boot.

Zombie stories always work best when you can feel close to the people going through it, and that journal entry at the start is perfect for drawing people in.
