Warped Virus

The warped virus, also dubbed the C-800 virus, is a deadly infection that has destroyed eighty-five percent of Slavoria's population. It was first discovered by Clipse, the Royal Prophet of Uskaria Theocracy. It is said that he sees the land of Hellisfjoror as a threat and an abomination to all catfolk. Due to his unbearable hatred, he took the samples of the virus he collected from an undisclosed location and had his people spread the virus into the Hellisdalr Lands.

Transmission & Vectors

To transmit the virus between people or from warped to the living, it must come from blood or saliva. A bite takes five full days to complete the transformation but blood — whether injected into the body, swallowed, or contaminating a wound — only takes three days to complete the transformation.

Causes

The original cause of the virus is only known to come from a building, known only as Cafoeto, in the Uskaria Theocracy.

Treatment

There are only two known ways to "cure" someone of the bite — cut off the infected limb before the infection spreads, which is roughly a few minutes, or kill the infected and burn the corpse to stop the spread of the virus. In secret, there is a third method to curing the infected, but this method is dangerous and can potentially put those attempting to cure the infected in peril. To start, the cure begins with the infected being offered a deal by a vampire. This deal involves turning the infected into a vampire as long as the bite was made within the last two days. Otherwise, the warped will simply die while releasing toxic spores into the atmosphere that help spread the virus.

Affected Groups

All sentient beings are infected, from werewolves to elves and even avians. The only beings unaffected are the fauna, like cloud deer or dragons.

Cultural Reception

Anyone who has heard of the virus knows how dangerous it is. People fear it for that reason. Some claim it to be a punishment sent by their gods, while others claim it is dangerous necromancy gone wrong. Those who have lost loved ones to the virus condemn it and fight to end as many of the warped as they can.
