Situation Overview

Lady Hechek Reisel has provided information which, when put together with Jedora survey data, led to the discovery of a base operated by the Ouroboros Sun. Situated near the Wildstorm Valley, the rainfall here has turned several places into a muddy morass, but the buildings seem stable enough. Portions of the Ouroboros Sun forces had been assigned to patrol the area and were caught away from the base grounds. Commander Sethan assigned Otto Greene to lead the forces attacking Houndstooth Base, with instructions to ensure the mission would be a success.

Objectives

Objective: Both Priam Company and the Ouroboros Sun are wrestling for control of the Houndstooth Base. Their goals are to control as many of the four objective points as possible (1 VP). For controlling two adjacent objective points at the same time, a side will receive a bonus (1 VP). Lastly, the defeat of opposing units is also important to help cut down the forces which can be brought to bear (1 VP).

Setup

The region the Ouroboros Sun has chosen for the Houndstooth Base is a marshy wetland, with high elevations around the base environment. This is represented by an assortment of Rough, Elevated, and Water Terrain elements (in this particular scenario this is 11 Rough. 14 Elevated, and 8 Water terrain pieces). Four location markers are placed on the field nine hexes from the center along the middle line on both the length and the width of the field. Each of these positions will have parts of the base buildings placed nearby to represent parts of the base.

The Houndstooth base itself consists of four particular elements, and in this instance it is represented by a pair of two-story brick buildings, a large office building, and a trio of cargo storage units. These are placed near the objective markers to simulate portions of the base which will be contested by either side.

    Special Rules

Forced Withdrawal: When certain conditions are met, the defending units will surrender in position. These conditions are as follows:
    • If a BattleMech expends all their ammunition and has no more available weapons.
    • If a BattleMech loses one side torso location due to damage.
    • If a BattleMech sustains internal damage in two torso locations or three limb locations.
    • If a BattleMech suffers two Engine hits or one Engine hit and one Gyro hit.
    • If a BattleMech is rendered immobile or otherwise unable to escape the battlefield.
Salvage: As part of the overall contract, Priam Company is afforded one selection of salvage for every two Victory Points scored from completing objectives.

Objective Control: To control an objective, a unit must be within three hexes of the target and remain there to "contest" it. Whichever force has the most units within range is determined to "control" the asset. If there is a tie, then the objective cannot be controlled, and remains contested.

    Special Abilities

Human TRO: Not all pilots focus on the task of combat, but instead on knowing the weaknesses of one class of units ('Mechs, Vehicles, etc) so they may be exploited. For the chosen class of units, this pilot adds +1 to their roll to determine Critical Hits.
Lucky: Sometimes you just find luck when you least expect it. For each point of Lucky, this pilot may reroll one Gunnery or Piloting roll per scenario.
Multi-Tasker: Whenever you want to exploit a target-rich environment, or just need to have your attention divided, it's difficult. However, this pilot reduces all attacks against secondary targets by a -1 To-Hit bonus after working on their ability to split their focus.
Range Master: This pilot has trained to fire more accurately at a different range than normal. They swap their short range penalty for the designated range penalty (either medium or long range this means their short range is now less accurate but their chosen range is more accurate.
Sniper: Experience teaches pilots how to lead distant targets better, making it less difficult to hit their targets. This pilot halves all standard range penalties (+1 for medium range, +2 for long range).
Speed Demon: This unit may move 1 extra space while using Running/Flank speed, but it may make no attack action this round.
Weapons Specialist: Training and time have brought a sense of a particular weapon and how to get the most out of it. This unit has a -2 To-Hit bonus with their chosen weapon.

    Battle Report

    Prelude

    (Image Link)
'MechWarrior Greene arrived with Priam Company's Lances to find the Ouroboros Sun had dispatched five 'Mechs and a trio of vehicles to defend their territory. His instructions were simple and to the point: take whatever shots could be taken, but focus on taking structures and holding control for as long as possible.

    Turns One & Two

    Turn One: (Image Link)
    Turn Two: (Image Link)
Both sides began to advance, with the Ouroboros Sun having their Phoenix Hawk and Griffin take the right flank with their speed. Meanwhile, Priam Company's forces advance as a single unit, two Lances staying distinct as they approach. Their Archer lagged behind briefly, to find a clear path. With nobody having any targets within range, the advance continued.

The Wolverine piloted by Graves moved into the lead, but was unable to secure the objective point. Luckily, the Ouroboros warriors could not reach their closest marker. Instead, they moved along the ridges to keep cover from any attacks and let their tanks move towards the brick building. One Vedette had a clear shot at the Wolverine, but at nearly the extent of the AC/2's effective range the shot was too difficult to connect.

    Turn Three

    (Image Link)
Priam Company and the Ouroboros Sun managed to both reach their respective objectives, with a Vedette tank parking behind the building for cover and Vandal taking control of the larger building. With ranges starting to close up, more weapons fire was exchanged to discourage opponents from closing. Drake and Treasa both opened fire on the Ouroboros' Griffin, and caused it to fall to a knee from the barrage. Graves and Renard aimed at the Phoenix Hawk and fail to connect.

    Objective Point Totals

  • Priam Company: 1 VP
  • Ouroboros Sun: 1 VP

  • Turn Four

    (Image Link)
Renard pushed his Griffin while Graves moved to seize the flank building from the Vedette tank on it. The Schrek tank opened fire, three PPCs mauling Renard's Griffin terribly. Renard was not close enough to contest control of the building, which meant that the Ouroboros Sun held it just a little longer. Otto and Maeve moved their 'Mechs to assist if needed, a PPC fired at the Schrek and blasted some armor away.

Meanwhile, the Ouroboros Griffin and Phoenix Hawk were engaged by Schrade's Centurion and Drake's Griffin. A viscious exchange of fire scarred each side, though nobody succumbed just yet. Treasa's Archer took this opportunity to cool down and prepared for another barrage of missiles, and Otto remained focused on keeping the building secure for now.

    Objective Point Totals

  • Priam Company: 2 VP
  • Ouroboros Sun: 5 VP

  • Turn Five

    (Image Link)
Priam Company continued pushing the advance, managing to push the Vedette back off the northern objective by moving the Warhammer to assist. Otto brought the Victor into the middle area to bait out the enemy Banshee, and opened fire on it. Schrade moved to get a clear shot at the Banshee as well, and Vandal moved out of cover to lend a couple shots into the Assault 'Mech. These hits landed, but heavy armor just absorbed the punishment without much effect.

The supply cache on the southern objective became the subject of a heated firefight, as Drake's Griffin was focused on by the Stalker and Longbow. Schrade had the enemy Griffin move in behind his 'Mech and attempt to trip him, while the Phoenix Hawk succeeded in kicking Drake's 'Mech in the right leg and sent it sprawling on its back. Treasa's Archer fired on the Stalker, assuming it is going to be the next major target to take down.

    Objective Point Totals

  • Priam Company: 6 VP
  • Ouroboros Sun: 6 VP

  • Turn Six

    (Image Link)
Both sides closed in for brawls at the contested locations, some areas becoming much more heated than others. Renard and Graves moved to engage the Schrek defending the western objective, successfully neutralizing it from SRMs killing the crew inside. The tank's PPCs tore more chunks out of Renard's Griffin, and yet he kept it standing. Graves' Wolverine managed to contest the western objective, succeeding at keeping the Ouroboros Sun under pressure in the meantime. Otto continued engaging the Banshee, both Assault 'Mechs not doing any critical damage to each other.

The Ouroboros Sun also engaged Vandal, the Griffin closed to close range and paid for it by absorbing an alpha strike from the Black Knight. However, this now contested the eastern objective and meant a struggle would be needed to secure it. Vandal would be up for the task with his choice of 'Mech, but it would still take up time. However, at the storage cache things had taken a worse turn. The enemy Stalker walked onto one of the storage units to take aim at the Griffin, backed by the Longbow. Missile fire struck Drake's 'Mech in the head and crumpled it inwards, while the Phoenix Hawk continued engaging Schrade's Centurion. This time, Schrade was unable to keep upright, having been focused on one specific target: the storage container the Stalker was standing on. A burst from the autocannon weakened it enough to dump the Stalker onto the ground, further damaging the armor in the process.

    Objective Point Totals

  • Priam Company: 7 VP
  • Ouroboros Sun: 7 VP

  • Turn Seven

    (Image Link)
Otto had managed to force the Banshee to back off to defend the western objective, and so he turned his Victor to engage the enemy Griffin. It continued to contest control of the eastern building, despite taking a great amount of punishment in the process. A combination of punishment from the Phoenix Hawk and the Stalker mauled Schrade's Centurion to the point where it lost its right arm, took damage to the gyro, the engine shielding, and had the armor on its head compromised. Schrade bailed out quickly, knowing there was little more he could do with a 'Mech missing its primary weapon.

The Ouroboros Longbow had changed its fire to Treasa's Archer, and its barrage of missiles severely damaged the engine shielding. The spike in heat was dangerous, but she was willing to stick it out just a little longer to try to take one of the Ouroboros 'Mechs out of the picture.

    Objective Point Totals

  • Priam Company: 8 VP
  • Ouroboros Sun: 8 VP

  • Turn Eight

    (Image Link)
Both sides have begun taking drastic measures, as Maeve abandoned control of the northern objective to start firing on the Stalker and Vandal overloading his Black Knight in order to make certain the Ouroboros Griffin was put out of the picture. Similarly, the defending Longbow and Stalker fired everything into Treasa's 'Mech with a killer intent and shut down from excessive heat. The Archer's gyro and engine were destroyed in the process, which left Treasa on the ground and unable to do anything more for the fight. At this point, Priam Company was starting to push the advantage on control despite losing three 'Mechs in a short time.

    Objective Point Totals

  • Priam Company: 9 VP
  • Ouroboros Sun: 8 VP
  •   The Stalker pushes its weaponry to the limit, and together with the Longbow destroy the Archer's gyro and engine. This causes the Stalker to shut down from the heat. The Victor and Black Knight swing around to bracket the enemy Griffin and remove it from the capture point. The GRF-1S and Wolverine continue pushing on the western point even with the Banshee holding on dearly.

    Turn Nine

    (Image Link)
Renard and Graves pushed their advantage on the western objective by destroying the Vedette keeping control of it, while the Banshee opened fire on Maeve's Warhammer. Maeve was focused on one target alone, taking careful aim at the shut-down Stalker and letting loose. Damaged head armor became vaporized as a PPC landed home and turned the head into a shattered mess. An unfortunately triggered emergency shutdown took the Phoenix Hawk out of the fight, meaning the storage cache could not be controlled and Priam Company now had held onto the base long enough to secure it.

    Objective Point Totals

  • Priam Company: 10 VP
  • Ouroboros Sun: 8 VP

  • Aftermath

Houndstooth Base was now fully in the control of Priam Company, and Lady Reisel ordered all materials to be seized and sealed until they could be completely catalogued and analyzed. Otto managed to drag his strike force back together, having to report a dead 'MechWarrior and two 'Mechs which now had enough damage to be out of action for a significant amount of time. Commander Sethan noted the losses would be felt, because they needed to move fast to make the final strike on the Ouroboros Sun. To cut the head off the snake, and be sure it wouldn't be able to carry out any more operations against the Inner Sphere.
