Spirit Tailor Character in When the Curtain has fallen | World Anvil

Spirit Tailor

There's a rumor one can hear all around the city, spread both by the last humans living here and some of the friendlier Spirits.
There's someone capable of taking apart the Spirits, and without spoiling or corrupting the concepts that create them, turning their parts into clothes and armor.

Finding them

According to Spirits, even before the material world merged with the spiritual one, creating an ever-changing mess, finding the Tailor would be almost impossible to do. One needs either inhuman luck or someone who already visited them before. The entrance to Tailor's workshop changes its appearance just like the rest of the world. Sometimes it is a clothing shop, sometimes a ruined corner shop. In some cases, even an inside of the tree.

The face of an artisan

Entering the workshop, one needs to adapt to the darkness prevailing inside. Before one even manages to take the first step, they will hear the calm voice of an old man asking them not to turn on any lights. While going through the barely visible maze of shelves, hanged textiles and finished clothes, one will eventually see a single, lonely source of light. A small candle.
And not a moment later, they will see a small fragment of the creature working inside the workshop.   A long, winding neck. At its end, a snake-like head with big, insect eyes, mostly covered with cataract. Two long fangs sticking out of the mouth. Its skin both loose and wrinkly and covered with scales that lost their shine. Following the neck, one can see a big round body, covered with layers of clothes and darkness.
And finally, the pride of the craftsman, its arms. Resembling mantis's raptorial forearms in their appearance, those two giant limbs are covered with holes through which various threads stick out. The ones currently in use cascade down to sharp ends the Tailor uses to cut and sew. Each move of those arms makes a sound resembling that of the sewing machine.
The first, and last time I tried to enter their workshop, before I even stepped through the door, they threw needles the half the length of my body at me. Well, that's one client less for them. Not that I need their services, haha.
The old man living there is pretty nice. There were some clients who wanted to visit him, so I brought them there. They always returned in a good mood after dealing with him. I heard he makes armor and things like that.

Tailor's craft

The main reason why people visit Tailor are the clothes it can make out of other Spirits. Said clothes, depending on the traits of the ex-owner of the pelt, could absorb the strength of attacks of other Spirits, increase the physical capabilities of the wearer or even give them some of the abilities of the Spirits. They can even protect from possession as the body of the wearer is already considered to be taken by another Spirit.   However, there are some downsides to wearing clothes made out of Spirits. First, if the Spirit had any friends, they probably won't be too happy about someone wearing the skin of their pal. Additionally, someone wearing the skin of a Spirit will be also considered this type of Spirit. So if anything would normally hunt it, it will now have a new snack in front of itself.
And lastly, something the Tailor warns anyone daring to bring a pelt of a powerful Spirit, if the Spirit was really strong, wearing its skin can change humans, in similar way being possessed would change them. Their body and mind can be irreversibly morphed into something new. And usually not so friendly to their previous species.
