The Kerry Orndorff Memorial

A bronze statue of a male on the beach. His shirt is unbuttoned revealing his chest.
If you're visiting Solis Bay, and you ask a local about where to find Stedevast Beach, they'll probably to "Go Find Kerry," a reference to famed lifeguard Kerry Orndorff. This memorial statue of one of Solis Bay's greatest citizens is a focal point for tourists and locals a like. Everyone knows that if you want to have a safe day at the beach, you gotta see Kerry first.

The Man

Kerry Orndorff was born in Chicago, IL, and spent his teenage summers serving as a lifeguard on Lake Michigan. After Kerry graduated from high school, he went into the NAVY, where he entered the Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewmen (SWCC) program. During those 10 years, many have speculated as to what missions Orndorff took part in, but no one is certain. His time in SWCC remains classified.   After leaving the Navy, Kerry Orndorff transitioned into a life at Solis Bay, California, taking up a job as a lifeguard at Stedevast Beach in the Capshaw neighborhood. Kerry took his position as a lifeguard seriously and wanted to improve the beach for future generations. In cooperation with the city, Kerry Orndorff formed an elite group lifeguards called the Stedevast Angels. These men and women took a more active role in taking care of the beaches and the community, and bridged a gap between lifeguards and the coast guard.   Sadly, Kerry Orndorff passed away in 2031, when he was struck down in a violent shooting in the Herdevine neighborhood. Many suspect that it was revenge for uncovering and busting up a human trafficking ring five years prior. His murder remains unsolved.
"The beach is where everyone goes to enjoy themselves. On any given day, you can see people finding happiness, finding fulfillment... finding love. It's a sacred place that needs to be protected. Not taken for granted. And I get to wake up every day knowing that I get to watch over the beaches and the thousands of freedom-loving men and women who visit every day. It's a blessing and if I die tomorrow I'll know I lived a good life."
- Kerry Orndorff, the day before he got murdered.

The Legacy

In the year 2035, on the 20th anniversary of the Stedevast Angel program, a memorial statue was erected to commemorate the life and accomplishments of Kerry Orndorff. Designed by sculptor Andres Legeant, the statue is of Kerry overlooking the ocean, watching out for the swimmers and surfers for all eternity.   Every summer, during Rookie training, the Kerry Orndorrf Memorial serves as the meeting place for all trainees and future lifeguards. Even in death, Kerry Orndorff continues to serve as inspiration to aspiring Stedevast Angels, and anyone else who wants to better serve their community. He remains the gold standard by which all lifeguards are measured.
"Kerry Orndorff saved my life, but I wasn't drowning in the water. I was drowning in self-pity. When you're a low ranking member of gang associated with the Chinese Triad, depression and self-loathing comes along with the job.
But Kerry Orndorff saw me at my worst, and got me out of that life. I went back to school and made something of myself. Now I'm an investment banker and I'm collecting fat stacks." - one of the hundreds of lives saved by Kerry Orndorff.
