Rather than telling you about this language that has fallen out of use, I'm going to share a story my
dad told me about this secret cipher and language that some dumb bandits tried to use.
One Time on Patrol
My
father as a young man had been assigned to watch the border between
The Copper Mountains and the Classless Badlands several miles south of
Clink's Mine. This border territory is something of a dangerous assignment as raiders, and bandits sometimes get the bright idea of trying to skim resources from
Copper Mount Militia scouts or traders.
Being placed on this assignment, my father and his squad had very little to entertain themselves, and he took to trying to paint the surrounding area. This was when he heard a soft whistling, not one of the local wildlife, but of an
awoken.
As he approached the noise, gun in hand, painters pallet in the other the sound stumbled, stopped, and a voice whispered. "What was the code for 'he's coming'?" followed by a woman shouting "You moron!". With that shout, the entire squad was alerted and drove back the bandits, who had been using whistles to communicate and keep tabs on their movements. It didn't work well at all and only became blatant once my
dad had uncovered it. He even thought me how to whistle it!
