Rockdwellers

Rockdwellers is how we call the Ork groups living at the Claridon Plains. The plains have many Mesa hills in them, some of which contain Ork settlements. As we are unaware of any other kind of Ork settlements in the area, the Wayfarer Guild decided on the moniker Rockdweller for our documentation.

Architecture

As the name suggests, the Orks in the Claridon Plains build their settlements within hard rock, specifically the Mesa hills in the eastern half. This allows them a great view of the surrounding area, as well as preventing Beasts from digging past their defenses. Metal grates block ventilation holes and passageways, so that Delirium Serpents cannot use their own tunnels against them.   In some cases, the Orks have enough easily accessible water to farm crops on top of their Mesa. In those cases, they hang metal nets over these crops, to protect themselves against aerial Beasts. Furthermore, they will build defensive structures that make it hard for Beasts to climb up the Mesa.   While each Rockdweller settlement has its own style, we can identify several common access methods to these settlements. Specifically reports note multiple occurrences of ropeladders that can be easily pulled up or cut, stonecarved stairs, ziplines for rapid descent, as well as simple tunnel networks all the way from the ground to the top.

Society

As of now, we do not know where the Rockdwellers get their metal from for their grates and nets. It is possible that some of their settlements contain hidden mines and forges. However, their distrust of us means all but one known Rockdweller settlement has refused us access, the sole exception being Aela.   Culture-wise, what has been observed suggests the various settlements are quite comparable to each other. At the very least, the coming-of-age hunts for Delirium Serpents have been observed in multiple settlements. There also have been times where settlements will team up, usually when dealing with a massive group of Beasts. We have found no traces of warfare, so it seems the groups are friendly towards each other.   Unfortunately, due to the large distance towards the Mesa hills, it is hard to discover more. The main reason that we know so much about the Rockdwellers, is that multiple Ork Wanderers will guide Wayfarer explorations through the plains every few years, as they seek to visit their homes for a short while. They still won't tell us about Ork affairs, but their aid does allow for limited trade with Aela.
