Claridon Plains | Wherever I May Roam

Claridon Plains

The Claridon Plains are Beast Lands located on the eastern Frontier, most infamous for its large estimated population of Delirium Serpents. The plains look deceivingly flat, for small ridges and the occasional fissure tear through these lands and provide predators with plenty of places to hide.   While the Claridon Plains have the occasional river and forest stretching through it, as well as Mesa hills in its eastern half, most of it is covered with short vegetation. On the Frontier border, this is maintained on purpose, with controlled burns designed to take away predator hiding spots. Further into these Beast Lands, large herds of grazing species keep the vegetation under control, assisted by the occasional wildfire.   Barely visible in the far distance, the Mesa hills are far beyond the reach of anything but large-scale explorations. The Wayfarer Guild secretly is aware of the presence of several Ork settlements in these hills, but the large distance makes it impossible to properly connect with them. Furthermore, most have turned away visitors, the sole exception being Aela.

Beasts

There are four primary Beast species in the Claridon Plains. Closer to the Frontier, the largest threat are the Delirium Serpents. Further away, Sharp Redbird and Tusked Redcat groups mean even large hunting parties must always remain vigilant. The risk of aerial assaults, combined with the terrain providing predators with plenty of places to hide, means a single distracted moment can get dozens or even hundreds killed.
Both large groups and singular Wayfarers and Wanderers will occasionally venture forth to hunt these predators, but the unprepared do not return and even the prepared take a great risk. As for the grazing species, the Trihorn Buffalo is too hostile to hunt. They will normally ignore anyone that leaves them alone, but an entire pack will hunt down whoever spills their blood. They also then become a risk for any other hunters for multiple years.
