Sarkoldu'un-Imathratep

Sarkoldu'un-Imathratep is a vast demonic metropolis in the Near Umbra of Waking Materia. It is a twin nation, comprising the cities Sarkoldu'un and Imathratep, divided by deep chasm filled with living smoke.

Though Waking visitors are rarer here than Dis or Epitaph, the culture of the twin cities is not immediately hostile to Waking mortals, and explorers may find opportunities for to trade on goods or information, assuming one can overcome the steep cultural and linguistic barriers.

Culture

Residents of Sarkoldu'un and Imathratep seem to live nomadic lives even within the great twin cities, migrating from one district of enormous brutalist buildings to another and taking with them very few belongings. There appear to be no laws or costs to settling a new location; everything seems up for grabs. Tents are generally used for privacy; some buildings are crowded with such camp sites. There are nonetheless standard businesses at permanent locations as well, though often from foreign demonic cultures.

History

Very little First Age writing has survived the Deluge concerning the city state. They are listed as one of the early signatories of The Old Accords alongside Orms-by-Gorr, and Imathratep is mentioned as the birthplace of The CCXXVIII Supreme Pontifex of Dis, Jovia of the Emerald Dream, the second-most recent leader of the towering hive city before being ousted by its current High King.

The Twin Cities, alongside Orms-by-Gorr, don't engage politically with non-signatories of the Old Accords, like Dis and Kloster Storkenfels.

Sarkoldu'un is known to be the birthplace and protector of an alien form of magic known as Koldu'unic Sorcery. The last-known Waking mortal known to have grasped this art was the great emperor of the Holy Juran Empire, Olcadan of Dhund.
