The Freelands of the North

The Freelands of the North

The Freelands of the North began as an expedition that later resulted in the forming of an autonomous kingdom. A large number of Freelanders took up the task of exploring the uncharted, frozen wastes that lay beyond the northern borders, where the monsters came from on the other side of the kingdom.

Campaigning in the Freelands of the North

The northern continent consists of endless mountains covered in snow and dense, dark forests that barely see sunlight. An increased population of monsters is probably the main problem in the area, as bigger and more ancient creatures lurk in those forgotten lands. Cities are located at large distances from each other, connected via trails that require explicit knowledge and survival skills to follow.

The People of the Freelands of the North

Freelanders of the North do not go easy on outsiders. They have developed a sturdy relationship between them that allows them to survive in the frozen lands and will either ignore or repel strangers unless they prove useful to their communities.

Inner & Outer Conflicts

The Freelanders do not have grievances with any known kingdom or organization, as they live a secluded, remote life, far away from the interests of kings and queens. However, they fight a constant battle against the monsters that spawn from the Amber Seals beneath the ground during the winter season. The Dangers of the Freelands of the North Life in the Freelands of the North is difficult, if not short. People are raised to become not only warriors but hunters, specializing in monsters in particular. They also grow to learn how to identify herbs and survive in the wild under extreme conditions. One must learn to cope with these situations and equip themselves with the necessary skills to survive the hardships that come with the territory.

North Freelander Customs

  • A Warlord is elected to rule over the whole kingdom, usually based in the capital.
  • Chieftains are chosen by the Warlord to serve as local authority figures in other cities.
  • Adventurers can achieve the highest of honors if they kill monsters beyond the Tooth Mountain Range. They are later called Spinemasters and receive wealth and privileges.
  • Ranks do not exist in the Freelands of the North apart from various military and ceremonial positions that mostly revolve around hunting and survival skills. First Hunters are usually the most skilled woodsmen that lead expedition teams into the wilderness whenever necessary.
  • Mercenaries that arrive from other kingdoms to fight monsters for gold are considered “soulless” by the Freelanders of the North.
