The Mapmaker

As the city of Birohhal was settling into the landscape of Cytal, many scholars, explorers and adventurers swept to the city of knowledge. At the same time, more and more Acurans and Sorcerers were travelling the realms, exploring new doorways to extraordinary places. It was becoming difficult to know every portal used, which waystone led where and what realms were deemed too dangerous for anyone to enter. Therefore a group of early realm explorers, who called themselves Realm Rangers, nominated one member to take on the task of mapping the whereabouts of every known realm. This member would be known as The Mapmaker.
The role of this member was to not only take on the impossible task of trying to map the existence of already discovered realms on an invisible plane, but locate potential new realms hidden in the void. The role of this title was not given lightly and thus the Realm Rangers chose someone who was wise, powerful in the ways of magic and dedicated to the cause for the greater good of others. It was then, that the group elected the Acuran named Bruvial.
This role was passed on for generations for the next 700 years, with each Mapmaker expanding the map further and further. Changing how we look at the web of realms and altering the exact centre of all things constantly.
Eventually the Realm Rangers and Mapmaker came in contact with the Acruan Madness - Condition, a disease that turned the most powerful magic wielders into ticking bombs of destruction. This along with more and more dangers emerging throughout the realms, the Rangers decided that the maps they had created would be too dangerous if they got into the wrong hands. So the group set about destroying every known map of the realms until only one remained. The original copy drawn by the Mapmaker. At this point in time, the role of the Mapmaker changed from simply plotting the web of realms and into the responsibility of keeping the map secret from the eyes of others. Only the Mapmaker was allowed to know the location of the map and took an oath to protect the secret until their predecessor took over.
