Fairy dust is a common material in the realm of Fairies. It is a natural dust that allows creatures to perform spells and minor illusions. The unique thing about the dust is that it only fairies are capable of using it for its magical properties, to others it is simply another form of material found in nature.
Raw Form:
The raw dust is often found mixed with pollen of blooming flowers and seeping plants. Noticeable by its golden sparkling appearance and a feint warm glow compared to that of glow shrooms. This natural dust is a touch heavier than the average pollen and each particle is about the same size as a granule of sugar. Most commonly found in the Faebloom flower but traces can also be found in plants such as Lucid Lavender and Ember Roots. Dabbing a sprinkling of this dust in its natural state tastes dry but slightly sweet.
Production:
While the dust is most powerful in its raw state, it is often difficult to achieve magic consistently. Resulting in spells that misbehave or backfiring on the fairy and causing injury. To counteract this, elder fairies tell tales of their ancestors who experimented with the dust to create a more stable and longer lasting product. Leading to the fairy dust that is widely used across the forests today.
The process is relatively simple, gather a spoonful of raw dust and fold it into a bowl with tree sap and finely grounded pebbles. This results in a grainier substance that is still light enough to be carried away by the wind. Combining these ingredients together also allows for the dust to be stored for longer periods of time and allows fairies to control magic with precision.
This new common form of fairy dust allows fairies to achieve a number of magical acts including; enhancing their growing and shrinking abilities, minor healing, minor illusions and creating light sources. As mentioned earlier, the fairy dust can only be used by fairies to cast spells or perform magic. Elves and Jynx find no use for the dust, while Sprites like to steal the produced dust and use it as garnishing for their favourite snacks.
