Ventus (Ven-tus)
Government
Queen Arellia Ventus is a wise and charismatic leader who adeptly navigates the complex web of political alliances, striving to balance the needs of each tier within Ventus. Although she is well-regarded among the nobility and citizens of Ventus for bringing relative prosperity to the upper tiers and her dedication to the city's well-being, her popularity may differ among the lower tiers, where social inequality is more pronounced. Queen Arellia relies on a group of trusted advisors called the Small Council to govern effectively, who wield significant influence in shaping Ventus's policies and decisions. Comprising individuals with expertise in various fields, each council member is responsible for overseeing a specific aspect of Ventus's governance, such as managing the city's finances, handling intelligence and espionage, and ensuring the fair administration of justice. While Queen Arellia is the ultimate authority, she values diverse perspectives and expertise, creating a system combining centralized leadership and collaborative decision-making. However, Queen Arellia faces the challenge of maintaining a delicate balance between the various tiers of Ventus, navigating political intrigues within the noble class, addressing the common people's concerns, and managing external pressures from neighbouring regions.
Districts
With four distinct tiers, Ventus's population is split with a striking depiction of societal stratification.
The Trenches are a place of chaos, where dilapidated structures lean precariously against each other. The narrow alleys are lined with makeshift shelters constructed from salvaged materials. The docks are bustling with activity, but the warehouses show signs of neglect. The air is thick with the smell of salt water, industrial fumes, and desperation. Children playing in narrow alleyways and the distant clatter of dock machinery create a symphony of sound. The atmosphere is one of survival, with residents constantly on guard against both external threats and each other. Hidden within the maze-like streets are small, community-run markets where residents barter for essentials. The occasional flickering streetlight provides a dim evening glow, casting long shadows over the uneven cobblestone paths.
Low Town is a unique district that transitions from the chaos of the Trenches to a more organized layout. The residential areas consist of modest two to three-story buildings with shared courtyards, while the warehouse district boasts large, weathered structures with loading docks and bustling market squares. The Colosseum, an imposing structure with weathered columns, dominates the skyline and comes alive at night with cheers and the clash of combat, providing an escape from the challenges of everyday life. During the day, Low Town's atmosphere is dynamic, with merchants haggling over goods and families going about their daily routines. However, hidden taverns and underground gatherings provide a space for residents to express themselves away from the watchful eyes of authorities. The Colosseum, though a source of entertainment, also serves as a constant reminder of the struggles the inhabitants face.
High Town is a district of stark contrasts. Its well-maintained buildings boast intricate facades and towering structures dedicated to trade and commerce. During the day, the area buzzes with activity in trading halls and bustling markets. The district transforms into a sophisticated entertainment hub at night with enchanting signs illuminating the streets. The Royal Gardens, meticulously landscaped, provide a tranquil escape with their carefully manicured lawns and vibrant flowers. The entertainment district features high-end clubs and theatres catering to the elite, while the imposing walls of the Templar's Stronghold loom in the background, radiating authority and mystery. The atmosphere is dynamic and multifaceted, but there's an undercurrent of tension as the Templar's stronghold remains concealed chiefly.
Sky Town is a marvel of architectural splendour that showcases the wealth and influence of the nobility. The Ventus Royal Palace stands tall with its massive, opulent structure, towering pillars, and expansive courtyards. The grand amphitheatre is a marvel of engineering, providing a breathtaking view of the city below, where nobles move about in elaborate clothing, attending lavish events. The Cathedral of Numen exudes a sense of divine serenity and cultural significance with its towering spires. The physical elevation of Sky Town reinforces the separation between the ruling class and the rest of Ventus. The Ventus Royal Palace, with towering gates and guarded entrances, is the epicentre of noble life, while the grand amphitheatre hosts extravagant performances and social gatherings.
