King Martin the Idle
Martin Hesphus Cipecus was the king of Estaria from 1663 to 1709 SE, during the last third of the War of the Gates. He ascended to the throne at the age of twelve when King Jonas Cipecus died without a suitable heir. He is an infamous and reviled king, hated by
Renewists for being an idle and ineffectual king that failed to defeat the Estarian Regency, and hated by Orthodox Atovists for his hand in prolonging the war.
History
Kingship
Ascending to the throne at such a young age, Martin precided over Solgrad in a time of decline. The Estarian Empire was torn between his regime and the Estarian Regency.Assassination
On the first day of First Light, 1709, during a royal procession in Solgrad at the base of Lonir Point Keep, Archduke Sutherland, a trusted member of King Martin's court, along with five other members of the court produced daggars and attacked King Martin in his back in front of a crowd of onlookers. King Martin's royal guard were in on the conspiracy and did nothing to stop the attack. One guard even assisted in the murder. Though six men drew weapons, only Archduke Sutherland and the guard actually struck King Martin.
