Edmarus was born in 1528, to Audwin Freightway and Loretta Payne. He was born a twin, with a brother named Lucianus Freightway. He was always very interested in reading and writing, and he was a very studious child, like his father. He never liked his brother, who would always pick on him and start fights, which Edmarus would never win. His brother was brave and always got all the attention, so it came as a surprise to everyone when his father named Edmarus his heir. Edmarus felt great pride, and he was always studying ways to be a good King. Unfortunately, his father died in 1543, in a hunting accident. That day, before he could even see him, he was kidnapped. His uncle told him the news in private, and then threw a bag over his head and threw him into a carriage.Life in Exile
Edmarus woke up on a large island, with a small cabin and an old elf man. The elf explained that his name was Cynric, and he was to look after the boy from now on. He would never let the child leave, and he would stop him if he tried. For his first year on the island, Edmarus tried countless times to escape, but he could never find a way out. The man was a druid, and he knew every inch of the island. The only other person who lived on the island was the elf's daughter, a red haired wood elf named Trisrora Rainrest. Edmarus spent most of his time with Trisrora, and they became best friends. Over time, he began to acclimate to this new life on the island.Ascension to the Crown
In 1546, a small team infiltrated the island. Edmarus was woken up from his bed by some armed knights. They led him to a boat nearby, where they were going to head back to the mainland and take him back to his family. They were stopped by the elven druid, who wielded his magic against them and told them he would kill them rather than see them leave. After a brief standoff, he was shot with an arrow by his own daughter. Trisrora killed her father to defend her friend, and decided to go with him. Edmarus was then brought to Greystone, where he was reunited with his grandmother. She explained that his brother and his grand-uncle had set up the whole situation, and his grand-uncle had been killed. They rallied the army of the Greybloods, and marched off to Freightway, joining with the Lancaster army on the way. When they arrived, Lucianus was standing on the walls, yelling down to them. He explained that he would kill his brother and crush all who oppose him, and offered his forgiveness to House Greyblood. Lucianus's own royal protector decided to take matter into his own hands by pushing Lucianus off the wall. He died on impact, and his men decided to stand down. Thus, in 1546, the tragic reign of Lucianus came to an end, and Edmarus was declared King.The People's King
Edmarus was a well loved King, who is remembered for bringing peace and stability back to the realm. He reinstated a ban on gambling, prostitution, and gladiatorial combat, but allowed the other Holds to decide for themselves whether to allow these things in their region. Greystone kept a ban on prostitution, but allowed gambling and gladiatorial matches, while Coldhall banned everything but gambling. He declared his mother as his first Hand of the King, which was seen as an extremely controversial decision, as there had been no women in positions that high in the court. However, his mother died in 1579, so he appointed Cynric Osborne as his new Hand of the King. Edmarus also appointed his friend Trisrora as his Elven Ambassador, a position that had been created specifically for her. Edmarus married Elisha Penrose of House Penrose, in 1552. They had two children, a boy named Erwin Freightway II in 1553, and a girl named Eloisa Freightway in 1568. Edmarus had a very peaceful reign, but he enjoyed hosting tourneys at his keep yearly, and he had a love of hunting. He was a very public figure, always hosting events and giving money to the poor.Death
Edmarus was found dead in 1596, sitting in his library. He died peacefully, and no foul play was suspected. He was mourned by the people, and his public funeral was attended by thousands of people. His son took over as King after his death.Relationships
