Erwin Freightway II

Child Genius

Erwin Freightway II was born in Freightway in 1553, to High King Edmarus Freightway and Queen Elisha Freightway. Erwin was named after his great-great-grandfather, Erwin Freightway I, one of the greatest Kings that Petrea had ever seen. He had immense pressure from a young age to excel in many things, which made him a very serious young man. Erwin had learned four languages before reaching adulthood, and was considered a natural swordsman and skilled horseman. When Erwin was 14, he gained fame for besting the 19 year old Prince of Hemlock in a joust.

The Silver Lion

Erwin was married in 1574, to a noble woman named Elizabeth Ulfrig from Greystone. They decided to take a trip to Wysteria as a honeymoon. Though the small island nation had been having some political turmoil, they had a great relationship with Petrea, so they provided many gifts for the young couple. They stayed on a small island off the coast of the main city. On the second night of their stay, an assassination was attempted against Erwin. Six armed men silently killed all of Erwins guards and soldiers, and snuck into his room. Erwin woke and grabbed for his two shortswords, and single handedly slew all six of the assassins single handidly. It is said that when help arrived they found him standing over the bodies in a dark, red-soaked room, with his silver coat popping amongst the sea of crimson. The Emperor of Wysteria wrote to Edmarus Freightway that the assassins had "leapt into the jaws of a silver lion", a sentence that quickly cemented Erwin's nickname he would identify with.

Ruling Petrea

Erwin prepared for his rule his entire life, studying constantly and acompanying his father on almost all of his meetings. Erwin slowly took on more and more responsibility as he grew older, until his father died peacefully in 1596, making Erwin High King. In 1598, the Gilded Wall was compromised by an army of Feral Mothkin, starting the Great Mothkin War, which went on for the next three years. Erwin himself fought in some battles, and they were eventually able to destroy the mothkin leader and seal the wall. He gained recognition for his keen strategic mind and skill in combat during this time. Erwin's rule kept relative stability, even through the brutal Mothkin War and the subsequent ravaging of the countryside.

Personal Life

Erwin has four children with his wife Elizabeth. His first child was a boy born 1578, named Goswin, though the boy died due to complications from childbirth. His second child was a boy born 1579 named Thaddeus. His third child was another boy born 1584, named Erwin III. His final child was a girl born 1590, named Alexandra. When Goswin died Erwin did not leave the palace for a month. Thaddeus is a very headstrong man, and was always more interested in glory and combat then scholarly pursuits. Thaddeus participated in the last year of the Great Mothkin War, leading several successful attacks on the mothkin horde. Erwin III was a much more studious boy, prefering to read and write than anything else. He was frequently picked on as a child by his older brother, but he has always been closer with his father than the other children. Alexandra was always a free spirit, and she has always taken a keen interest in combatives as well as politics.
